【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항해양경찰서(서장 김지한)는 1월 2일 오전 11시 27분쯤 포항시남구구룡포 동방 6km(약 3.6해리) 해상에서 어선 A호(8톤급)로 부터 고래 혼획 신고를 접수했다고 밝혔다.

구룡포파출소에서 확인해보니 혼획된 고래는 길이 5m 70cm, 둘레 2m 40cm로 측정되었으며, 국립수산과학원 고래연구센터에의뢰한 결과수컷 밍크고래로 확인됐다.

불법포획 흔적은 발견되지 않았고 밍크고래는 위판이 가능해 A호 선장에게 ‘고래류처리확인서’를 발급했다.

A호 선장(50대, 남)은 오늘 새벽 5시 52분쯤 포항시 남구 구룡포항에서 출항 후 해당 해역에 도착해 양망작업 중 밍크고래 1마리가통발그물에 감겨 죽어 있는 것을 보고 신고했다고 말했다.

포항해경 관계자는 “해안가 및 해상에서 죽은 고래를 발견하면 즉시 해양경찰로 신고해 달라”고 당부했다.

 Minke whale caught bycatch near Guryongpo

Pohang Marine Police Station (Chief Kim Ji-han) announced that at around 11:27 AM on January 2, they received a report of a whale bycatch from fishing boat A (8-ton class) 6km (approximately 3.6 nautical miles) east of Guryongpo, Nam-gu, Pohang.

After checking at Guryongpo Police Station, the whale caught bycatch was measured to be 5m 70cm in length and 2m 40cm in circumference. After requesting information from the Whale Research Center of the National Institute of Fisheries Science, it was confirmed to be a male minke whale.

No traces of illegal capture were found, and since the minke whale can be sold, a ‘Whale Disposal Confirmation Certificate’ was issued to the captain of boat A.

Captain A (male, 50s) said that he left Guryongpo Port in Nam-gu, Pohang City at around 5:52 AM today, arrived at the area, and reported seeing a dead minke whale entangled in a trap net while working on a haul-out operation.

A Pohang Coast Guard official said, “If you find a dead whale on the coast or at sea, please report it to the Coast Guard immediately.”
