【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항해양경찰서는 지난 26일 오후 11시 54분께 경주시 감포 동방 약 42해리 해상에서 어선 A호(9.77톤급, 승선원 6명)의 기관실에서 원인 미상의 화재가 발생했다는 신고를 접수했다고 밝혔다.
신고를 접수한 포항해경은 즉시 인근 조업선과 해군, 민간해양구조대 등 유관기관에 구조 지원을 요청하고, 경비함정과 연안구조정, 구조대, 포항항공대 등을 현장으로 급파했다.
이튿날인 27일 오전 1시 2분께 동해해양경찰청 포항항공대 소속 헬기가 사고 해역에 도착해 A호 선체에서 화재가 발생한 것을 확인했으며, 인근에서 구명뗏목으로 추정되는 물체를 발견해 경비함정을 통해 주변 어선에 관련 상황을 전파했다.
이어 오전 1시 10분께 사고 선박 인근에서 조업 중이던 어선 B호가 전파받은 위치에서 구명뗏목에 탑승한 A호 승선원 6명을 발견해 모두 B호로 옮겨 태웠다. 구조된 승선원 전원은 건강 상태에 이상이 없는 것으로 확인됐다.
A호 선장은 “조업을 위해 이동 중 기관실에서 큰 소리와 함께 불이 났고, 자체 진화를 시도했으나 불가능해 구명뗏목을 이용해 전원 탈출했다”고 당시 상황을 설명했다.
이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “해상에서 화재가 발생할 경우 초기 진화에 실패하면 침수나 침몰, 승선원 해상 추락 등 더 큰 사고로 이어질 수 있다”며 “평소 화재 예방을 위한 선박 점검에 각별히 신경 써 달라”고 당부했다.
