포항해경에 따르면, 어선 A호는 러시아산 레드킹크랩과 털게 약 5,400kg(시가 약 5억원 상당)을 밀수하여, 해당 수산물 전량을 압수 조치했다. 또한, 수입식품법 위반 등 추가 여죄와 공범에 대한 수사를 지속할 예정이다.
김지한 서장은 “군·세관 등 유관기관과의 협력 관계를 더욱 강화하여, 해상에서 발생하는 마약류 밀수, 밀입국 등 범죄에 엄정하고 단호히 대응하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 물품을 수입하려는 자가 세관장에게 신고하지 않은 경우 관세법 위반에 해당하며, 이는 5년 이하의 징역형 또는 관세액의 10배와 물품 원가 중 높은 금액에 해당하는 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
