27일 포항해경에 따르면 지난 8월 17일 오후 5시경 호미곶 구만리 앞 갯바위 인근에서 도움을 요청하는 10대 익수자 3명의 다급한 소리를 들은 임씨는 자신이 가지고 있는 튜브를 가지고 입수하여 익수자 1명을 구조했으며, 

 호미곶 해양재난구조대원 김부식씨는 자신이 소유한 선외기 보트를 이용하여 신속히 현장에 도착하여, 익수자 3명과 구조대원 3명을 보트에 태워 호미곶항으로 긴급 이송했다

 이와 더불어 호미곶파출소 김완수(34세) 경장은 육상에서 사고현장에 가장 먼저 도착하여 익수자 구조를 위해 근무복을 입은 상태로 500여 미터의 거리를 입수하여 나머지 익수자를 구조했다.

 감사장을 받은 임현철씨는 “도움을 요청하는 다급한 소리에 누구라도 도왔을 것”이라며 “앞으로도 서로 돕고 살아가는 세상이 되었으면 좋겠다”고 전했다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “해상에서 일어나는 사고의 특성상 현장에서 가장 가까이 있는 사람의 도움이 소중한 생명을 구하는데 큰 역할을 하는데 위험을 무릅쓰고 적극적으로 구조에 임해주셔서 감사하다”며 인명구조에 적극 헌신한 시민에게 깊은 감사와 경의를 표했다

The Pohang Coast Guard presented certificates of appreciation to Lim Hyeon-cheol (41) and Kim Bu-sik (63) for rescuing a drowning person near the rocks off Homigot Gumanri.

According to the Pohang Coast Guard on the 27th, around 5:00 PM on August 17th, Mr. Lim heard the desperate cries of three drowning teenagers near the rocks off Homigot Gumanri. He jumped into the water with his own tube and rescued one of them.

Mr. Kim Bu-sik, a member of the Homigot Marine Disaster Rescue Team, quickly arrived at the scene using his outboard boat, transporting the three drowning victims and three rescuers to Homigot Port.

Furthermore, Police Officer Kim Wan-soo (34) of the Homigot Police Station was the first to arrive on land. He donned his uniform and waded approximately 500 meters to rescue the remaining victims.

Mr. Lim Hyeon-cheol, who received a certificate of appreciation, said, "Anyone would have helped those desperate cries. I hope we can continue to live in a world where we all help each other."

Pohang Coast Guard Chief Lee Geun-an said, “Given the nature of accidents that occur at sea, the assistance of those closest to the scene plays a major role in saving precious lives. I am grateful that you took the risk and actively participated in the rescue,” expressing deep gratitude and respect to the citizens who actively dedicated themselves to saving lives.
