국제연안정화의 날은 매년 9월 셋째 주 토요일에유엔환경계획(UNEP)의 후원으로 세계 각국에서 진행되는 환경 운동으로서,우리나라는 2001년부터해양환경보전 행사에 참여하고 있다.

민·관 협력 해양환경보전 활동은 연안 환경 개선과 대국민 참여 독려를 위해 유관기관·단체와 지역주민 등과함께 해안가에서 수중·연안 정화 활동을 중점적으로 실시한다.

특히, 포항해경은 포항시, 경주시, 포스코, 한국수력원자력 월성원자력본부 등과 함께 포항·경주지역 해안길 ‘비치코밍’ 캠페인을 추진하고 있으며, 그동안 지역시민·관광객 등 약 6,600명이 참여하여 해양쓰레기 40톤을 수거했다.

또한, 포항해경 SNS 채널에서 ‘비치코밍’의 의미를 알리기 위해 소정의 상품을받을 수 있는 재밌는 이벤트도 실시한다.

포항해양경찰서는 앞으로도 깨끗하고 안전한 희망의 바다를 만들기 위해 노력하고 해양환경보전 문화를 만들어나가도록 다양한 해양오염 예방활동을 지속적으로 실시 할 예정이다.
