포항해양경찰서(서장 이근안)는 최근 국제 유가 폭등에 따른 불법 유류 거래 가능성에 대응하기 위해 지난 3월 11일부터 유가 안정 시까지 ‘해상 석유 불법 유통 특별단속’을 실시하고 있다고 밝혔다.
이번 단속은 중동 지역 군사분쟁 등으로 국제 유가가 상승하는 상황에서 부정한 이익을 노린 불법 유류 거래가 증가할 가능성이 높다고 판단해 추진됐다.
포항해경은 수사 인력을 중심으로 해상과 항·포구 일대를 대상으로 집중 단속을 실시할 계획이다. 주요 단속 대상은 세금계산서 없이 거래되는 무자료 유류 유통, 어업용 면세유의 목적 외 사용, 허가 취소 또는 정지된 어선에 대한 면세유 공급 등이다.
포항해경은 앞서 포항지역 무역항에서 무자료 석유제품 약 289만4,000리터(약 30억 원 상당)를 유통한 일당 3명을 검거한 바 있으며, 어업용 면세유 약 300리터를 수중레저용 모터보트 연료로 불법 사용한 일당 2명도 검거해 송치하는 등 관련 불법 행위를 지속적으로 단속해 왔다.
이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “유류 관련 범죄는 국가 경제 질서를 훼손하고 선량한 국민에게 피해를 줄 수 있는 중대한 범죄”라며 “불법 유통 행위에 대해서는 끝까지 추적해 엄정하게 단속하겠다”고 말했다.

The Pohang Coast Guard has been continuously cracking down on related illegal activities, having previously arrested a group of three individuals who distributed approximately 2,894,000 liters (worth about 3 billion won) of undocumented petroleum products at a trade port in the Pohang area, and also arrested and referred to prosecution two individuals who illegally used about 300 liters of tax-exempt fishing fuel as fuel for underwater leisure motorboats.
Lee Geun-an, head of the Pohang Coast Guard, stated, "Fuel-related crimes are serious offenses that can undermine the national economic order and cause harm to innocent citizens," adding, "We will track down illegal distribution activities to the end and crack down strictly."
