포항해양경찰서(서장 이근안)는 포항신항에서 발생한 불법 수산자원 포획 행위를 신고해 검거에 기여한 포항신항해양사무소 소속 항만보안관리관(청원경찰) 이상윤 씨에게 표창을 수여했다고 밝혔다.

포항해양경찰서에 따르면, 지난 10일 이상윤 씨는 포항지방해양수산청 산하 포항신항해양사무소 출문에서 항만 출입 차량을 검문하던 중 차량 내부에서 수상한 어획물을 발견했다.

차량 안에는 잠수장비와 함께 소라, 멍게, 전복 등 해산물이 담겨 있었으며, 이를 이상하게 여긴 이상윤 씨는 즉시 해경에 신고했다.

현장에 출동한 해경이 확인한 결과, 포항신항 내 수중 안전 점검 작업을 수행하던 잠수부가 불법으로 수산자원을 포획·채취한 뒤 외부로 반출하려 한 것으로 드러났다.

이번 사건은 항만보안관리관의 세심한 관찰과 신속한 대응으로 적발된 사례로, 포항해양경찰서는 항만 질서 유지와 수산자원 보호에 기여한 공로를 인정해 표창을 수여했다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “항만 내 불법 행위 근절과 질서 확립을 위해 관계기관과 협력을 지속 강화하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 비어업인이 잠수장비 등을 이용해 수산동·식물을 포획·채취할 경우 수산자원관리법 위반으로 1,000만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
