포항해경에 따르면 지난 7일 오후 6시 5분경, 연안자망 어선 B호(4톤급)가 체장미달 대게를 대량 포획해 판매하고 있다는 첩보가 접수됐다.

포항파출소는 V-PASS(어선 위치발신장치) 신호 분석과 출입항 기록 확인 등을 통해 B호의 입항 예정 사실을 확인한 뒤 잠복 단속을 실시했다.

같은 날 오후 7시 11분경 입항과 동시에 진행된 수색에서 경찰관은 우현 선수 갑판 그물 아래에 숨겨져 있던 체장 기준에 미달하는 대게 647마리를 발견했다. 해당 대게는 자원 회복이 가능한 상태로 판단돼 포항파출소 연안구조정을 이용해 여남갑 동방 1.25해리 해점 해상에서 전량 방류했다.

포항해경은 A씨를 대상으로 정확한 사건 경위를 조사할 예정이다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “체장미달 대게 포획은 자원을 고갈시키는 중대한 범법 행위”라며 “겨울철 대게 성어기 동안 단속을 강화하고 불법 유통 차단에도 총력을 기울이겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 수산자원관리법에 따르면 체장미달 대게를 포획·보관·유통·판매할 경우 2년 이하 징역 또는 2천만 원 이하 벌금형에 처해진다.

Meanwhile, according to the Fisheries Resources Management Act, catching, storing, distributing, or selling undersized crabs is punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.
