이날 점검에서는 주기관 등 함정 각종 장비 작동 상태, 고속단정 등 구조장비 관리실태, 관할해역 위험요소 파악 여부, 중대재해예방법 이행실태 등을 집중 점검했다.

최근 5년간 포항서 관내 전체 선박사고는 1,035척으로 동절기에 341척(34.6%)이 발생 하였으며, 그 중 인명피해(사망·실종) 23명중 16명(69.5%)이 동절기에 발생한 것으로 나타났다.

이에, 포항해양경찰서는 사전 대비·대응 계획을 수립하고, 기능별 소관 업무에대한 철저한 대비와 선제적 대응으로 해양사고 피해 최소화 할 계획이다.

김지한 서장은 “동절기는 기상악화 및 낮은 수온 등 계절적 특성상 해양사고발생 개연성이 높고 골든타임이 줄어 들 수밖에 없어 그 어느 때 보다 중요한시기인 만큼 해양사고 발생대비 대응태세에 만전을 다해 줄 것”을 당부했다.
