한수원은 2일(현지시간) 세르비아 수도 베오그라드에서 세르비아 에너지광업부(MoME)와 원자력 및 수소 분야 상호협력을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 협약식은 KOTRA가 주관한 ‘한국-세르비아 전략적 에너지 개발 포럼’ 행사 중 베오그라드 크라운 플라자 호텔에서 열렸다.

이번 협약을 통해 양측은 ▲세르비아 원전 기반 조성 ▲원자력 전문 인력 교육 프로그램 개발 ▲그린수소 실증 프로젝트 추진 등 다양한 청정에너지 분야 협력에 나서기로 했다.

세르비아는 현재 전체 전력의 약 60%를 석탄에 의존하고 있다. 탄소중립 달성을 위해 수력·풍력·태양광·원자력 등으로 에너지원을 다변화하고 있으며, 지난해 에너지법 개정을 통해 원전 정책 수립과 전문 인력 양성에 속도를 내고 있다. 수소에너지 개발을 위한 법적 기반도 마련한 상태다.

세르비아 에너지광업부는 이번 협약으로 원자력 개발과 인력 양성, 청정에너지 프로젝트 확대 등 장기적 협력 기반을 구축할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

황주호 한수원 사장은 “이번 협력을 통해 세르비아와 에너지 파트너십을 지속적으로 발전시키겠다”며 “특히 수소 실증 프로젝트를 통해 세르비아 수소 산업의 초석을 다지고, 청정에너지 전반에서 폭넓은 협력 기회를 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Joo-ho) will collaborate with the Serbian government in the nuclear and hydrogen sectors.

KHNP announced on the 2nd (local time) that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining (MoME) in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, for mutual cooperation in the nuclear and hydrogen sectors. The signing ceremony took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belgrade during the "Korea-Serbia Strategic Energy Development Forum," hosted by KOTRA.

Through this agreement, the two sides agreed to collaborate on various clean energy sectors, including: establishing a nuclear power plant infrastructure in Serbia; developing a training program for nuclear energy professionals; and promoting a green hydrogen demonstration project.

Serbia currently relies on coal for approximately 60% of its electricity. To achieve carbon neutrality, Korea is diversifying its energy sources to include hydropower, wind power, solar power, and nuclear power. Last year, the country amended its Energy Act to accelerate the development of nuclear power policies and the training of specialized personnel. The legal foundation for hydrogen energy development has also been established.

The Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining expects this agreement to establish a foundation for long-term cooperation in nuclear power development, human resource development, and the expansion of clean energy projects.

Hwang Joo-ho, President and CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), stated, "Through this collaboration, we will continue to develop our energy partnership with Serbia. In particular, through the hydrogen demonstration project, we will lay the foundation for the Serbian hydrogen industry and create broad opportunities for cooperation across the entire clean energy sector."
