한수원(사장 황주호)은 3일(현지시간) 루마니아 체르나보다 원전 현장에서 '체르나보다 원전 설비개선사업' 착공식을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 

이 사업은 루마니아 원자력공사가 발주한 총 2조 8천억 원 규모의 프로젝트로, 체르나보다 원전 1호기의 30년 계속운전을 위해 추진된다.

특히, 이 프로젝트에는 캐나다 캔두에너지, 이탈리아 안살도 뉴클리어와 함께 한수원이 컨소시엄을 구성해 참여하고 있다. 한수원의 계약 규모는 약 1조 2천억 원에 달하며, 주기기 교체를 포함한 시공 총괄과 방사성 폐기물 저장시설 등 핵심 인프라 건설을 책임진다. 국내 주요 기업인 한전KPS, 두산에너빌리티, 현대건설, 삼성물산 등도 시공에 참여해 '팀 코리아'의 역량을 보여줄 예정이다.

한수원은 지난해 12월 계약 체결 이후, 사업 수행을 위해 올해 2월 현지 건설소를 발족하고 8월 초에는 루마니아 규제기관으로부터 건설 허가를 획득하는 등 사업 준비를 착실히 진행해왔다. 앞으로 인프라 건설과 설비 개선 공사를 거쳐 2030년 준공을 목표로 하며, 이는 루마니아의 전력 공급 안정화와 에너지 안보 강화에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

The Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has successfully completed its first phase of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant Improvement Project in Romania.

KHNP (President Hwang Joo-ho) announced on the 3rd (local time) that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant Improvement Project at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania.

This project, worth a total of 2.8 trillion won (approximately US$2.2 billion), was commissioned by the Romanian Atomic Energy Corporation (NAEC) and is being implemented to ensure the 30-year operation of Cernavoda Unit 1.

Notably, KHNP is participating in this project as part of a consortium with Canada's Candu Energy and Italy's Ansaldo Nuclear. KHNP's contract, worth approximately 1.2 trillion won, includes overall construction, including the replacement of major equipment, and the construction of key infrastructure, including a radioactive waste storage facility. Major domestic companies such as KEPCO KPS, Doosan Energy, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Samsung C&T will also participate in the construction project, demonstrating the capabilities of "Team Korea."

Since signing the contract in December of last year, KHNP has steadily progressed with project preparations, including establishing a local construction company in February of this year and obtaining construction permits from Romanian regulators in early August. The project aims to be completed by 2030, following ongoing infrastructure construction and facility improvement work. This is expected to significantly contribute to the stabilization of Romania's power supply and strengthened energy security.

KHNP President and CEO Hwang Joo-ho praised the Cernavoda Unit 1 facility improvement project as a model example of international partnership. He emphasized, "Leveraging KHNP's extensive experience in nuclear power plant construction and operation, we will successfully complete the project."
