군은 성주참외의 명성을 지키기 위해 ▲158억 원 투입 시설원예 현대화 및 기후 대응 기반 구축 ▲역대 최대 규모 외국인 계절근로자 1,846명 도입 ▲소비자 중심 유통 혁신 및 판로 개척 ▲청년농업인 47명 신규 선발(누적 525명) ▲ICT 기반 스마트팜 확대 등 다양한 전략을 추진했다.

특히 스마트팜 보급 사업은 고령농과 청년농 모두에게 호응을 얻고 있으며, 군은 컨설팅·현장 진단·기술 교육을 연계한 맞춤 지원으로 농가 부담을 줄이고 있다.

성주군 관계자는 “스마트·청년·품질·유통·글로벌 다섯 가지 키워드를 중심으로 농민·행정·소비자가 함께 상생하는 성주참외의 미래 전략을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
