【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도는 지난 20일 대통령 직속 지방시대위원회가 주관한 ‘2025년 지역균형발전사업 우수사례 시상식’에서 경상북도농업기술원 성주참외과채류연구소가 지역농업연구기반 및 전략작목육성(R&D) 지원계정 부문 우수사례로 선정돼 우수 기관상을 수상했다고 25일 밝혔다.

지방시대위원회는 매년 지역균형발전 사업의 타당성, 목표 달성도, 지역경제 활성화 기여도를 종합 평가해 성공적인 발전 모델을 확산하기 위한 우수사례를 선정하고 있다.

이번 평가에서 성주참외과채류연구소는 급변하는 농업환경 속에서 참외 산업 경쟁력 강화를 목표로 ‘참외 생산액 1조 원 달성’ 및 ‘소득 2배·일손 절반’이라는 비전을 내걸고 지속 가능한 산업 생태계 구축에 기여한 공로를 인정받았다.

특히 연구소가 개발한 ▲포복형 수경재배 기술과 ▲하향식 수직재배 시스템은 생산성과 작업 효율성을 극대화한 혁신 기술로 높은 평가를 받았다. 또한 로봇‧AI 기반의 스마트농업 적용 기술인 ▲접목 로봇·수확용 협동 로봇과 ▲담배가루이 스마트 포획기는 노동력 절감과 정밀농업 실현에 기여한 점에서 우수성을 인정받았다.

IT 전문기업 ㈜유비엔과의 협력으로 구축한 ▲AI 기반 스마트 영농 관리 시스템 ‘참외톡톡’ 역시 자동화·지능화된 영농 혁신 모델로 호평을 받았다.

이날 시상식에서는 서영진 성주참외과채류연구소 소장과 안은기 ㈜유비엔 대표가 지역 농업 혁신에 기여한 공로로 우수 유공자 표창도 함께 수상했다.

조영숙 경상북도농업기술원장은 “이번 수상은 농업인·기업·연구기관이 함께 만들어낸 값진 성과이자 참외 산업 혁신의 시작점”이라며 “앞으로도 스마트 기술 기반의 미래형 참외 산업 구축에 앞장서 지역농업 혁신을 선도하겠다”고 말했다.

In this evaluation, the Seongju Melon and Vegetable Research Institute was recognized for its contributions to building a sustainable industrial ecosystem, with the vision of "achieving 1 trillion won in melon production" and "doubling income and reducing labor costs" to strengthen the competitiveness of the melon industry amidst a rapidly changing agricultural environment.

In particular, the lab's ▲creeping hydroponic cultivation technology and ▲top-down vertical cultivation system were highly evaluated as innovative technologies that maximized productivity and work efficiency. Furthermore, robot- and AI-based smart agriculture technologies, such as ▲grafting robots and collaborative harvesting robots and ▲smart tobacco whitefly traps, were recognized for their contributions to labor savings and precision farming.

The AI-based smart farming management system "Chamoe Tok Tok," developed in collaboration with IT specialist UBN Co., Ltd., also received acclaim as a model for automated and intelligent farming innovation.

At the awards ceremony, Seo Young-jin, Director of the Seongju Melon Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute, and Ahn Eun-ki, CEO of UBN Co., Ltd., also received commendations for their contributions to regional agricultural innovation.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services Director Cho Young-sook said, “This award is a valuable achievement created by farmers, businesses, and research institutes together, and it is the starting point for innovation in the melon industry,” and added, “We will continue to lead innovation in regional agriculture by taking the lead in building a future-oriented melon industry based on smart technology.”
