【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도가 영주시를 세계적 골프 관광도시로 육성하기 위한 대규모 프로젝트에 본격 착수했다.

경북도는 17일 도청에서 ‘영주 국가대표 골프 트레이닝 센터 및 박인비 골프파크 조성사업’ 추진을 위한 업무협약을 체결하고 ‘영주 글로벌 골프 허브 도시 조성 프로젝트’를 본격 가동한다고 밝혔다.

이날 협약식에는 이철우 경북도지사를 비롯해 박성만 경북도의회 의장, 영주시 관계자, 민간 투자사, 그리고 프로골퍼 박인비 등이 참석했다.

이번 사업은 총사업비 1,500억 원을 투입해 영주시 장수면 두전리 일원 43만 평 부지에 국가대표 골프 트레이닝 센터와 27홀 규모의 대중제 골프장을 조성하는 것이 핵심이다.

단지에는 ▲국가대표·유소년 골프 트레이닝 센터 ▲스포츠 과학 지원시설 ▲국제대회 유치가 가능한 27홀 골프장 ▲박인비 골프 박물관 및 전문 아카데미 등이 들어설 예정이다. 연간 약 50만 명 이상의 관광객 유입이 기대된다.

이와 함께 400실 규모의 호텔과 지역 특산물 판매시설, 캠핑장, 놀이시설 등 체류형 관광 인프라도 구축해 지역 일자리 창출과 소득 증대 효과도 노린다.

특히 국가대표 트레이닝 센터가 함께 조성되는 점이 이번 사업의 핵심으로 꼽힌다. 대한체육회는 운영 관련 기술 자문과 유소년 육성 프로그램 지원을 통해 사업 성공을 뒷받침할 계획이다.

경북도와 영주시는 사업 추진을 위해 지역활성화투자펀드 등 정책금융 활용과 함께 인허가 절차 간소화 등 행정 지원을 병행할 방침이다.

이와 함께 경북도는 영주시 전역을 3대 축으로 나눠 골프 중심 관광벨트를 구축한다. 장수면 일원은 ‘엘리트 골프 허브’, 판타시온 리조트와 108홀 파크골프장을 연계한 ‘시니어 레저 허브’, 이산면 일원은 가족형 관광시설과 18홀 골프장을 결합한 ‘웰니스·가족 휴양 허브’로 각각 육성할 계획이다.

사업이 완료되면 KLPGA는 물론 PGA, LPGA 등 국제 골프대회 유치를 통해 글로벌 스포츠 관광도시로의 도약도 기대된다.

이번 프로젝트는 경제적 파급효과도 클 것으로 전망된다. 경북도와 영주시는 건설 기간 동안 약 2,000억 원 규모의 생산 유발 효과와 800억 원 수준의 부가가치, 1,000명 이상의 고용 창출 효과가 발생할 것으로 보고 있다. 특히 LPGA 대회 유치 시 약 6만 명 이상의 방문객과 50억~80억 원 규모의 소비 효과도 기대된다.

박인비 선수는 “제 이름을 건 골프파크가 영주에 조성되는 만큼 큰 책임감을 느낀다”며 “이곳에서 제2, 제3의 박인비가 탄생할 수 있도록 힘을 보태겠다”고 말했다.

이철우 도지사는 “골프장은 이제 단순 체육시설을 넘어 지역경제를 견인하는 복합 레저 인프라”라며 “체육·관광·숙박이 연계된 사업 모델을 통해 지역 경쟁력을 높여 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

North Gyeongsang Province has officially launched a large-scale project to develop Yeongju into a world-class golf tourism city.

On the 17th, North Gyeongsang Province announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the provincial office to promote the ‘Yeongju National Team Golf Training Center and Park In-bee Golf Park Construction Project,’ officially launching the ‘Yeongju Global Golf Hub City Development Project.’

The signing ceremony was attended by North Gyeongsang Governor Lee Cheol-woo, North Gyeongsang Provincial Council Chairman Park Seong-man, Yeongju City officials, private investors, and professional golfer Park In-bee.

The core of this project involves investing a total of 150 billion won to construct a national team golf training center and a 27-hole public golf course on a 430,000-pyeong site in Dujeon-ri, Jangsu-myeon, Yeongju. The complex is scheduled to house a national team and youth golf training center, sports science support facilities, a 27-hole golf course capable of hosting international tournaments, and the Park In-bee Golf Museum and professional academy. An influx of over 500,000 tourists is expected annually.

In addition, infrastructure for stay-type tourism will be established, including a 400-room hotel, facilities for selling local specialties, a campsite, and recreational facilities, aiming to create local jobs and increase income.

The inclusion of a national team training center is considered a key element of this project. The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee plans to support the project's success by providing technical consulting on operations and assistance with youth development programs.

To facilitate the project, North Gyeongsang Province and Yeongju City plan to utilize policy financing, such as the Regional Revitalization Investment Fund, while simultaneously providing administrative support, including the simplification of licensing procedures.

Furthermore, North Gyeongsang Province will establish a golf-centered tourism belt across the entire city of Yeongju, dividing it into three major axes. The plan is to develop the Jangsu-myeon area into an ‘Elite Golf Hub’ and a ‘Senior Leisure Hub’ linked with the Fantasion Resort and a 108-hole park golf course, while the Isan-myeon area will be developed into a ‘Wellness and Family Recreation Hub’ combining family-friendly tourism facilities with an 18-hole golf course.

Upon completion of the project, the city is expected to take a leap forward as a global sports tourism hub by attracting international golf tournaments, including the KLPGA, PGA, and LPGA.

This project is also projected to have a significant economic ripple effect. Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and Yeongju City estimate that the construction period will generate approximately 200 billion won in production inducement effects, 80 billion won in added value, and create over 1,000 jobs. In particular, hosting an LPGA tournament is expected to attract over 60,000 visitors and generate a consumption effect of 5 to 8 billion won.

Park In-bee said, “I feel a great sense of responsibility as a golf park bearing my name is being established in Yeongju,” adding, “I will do my utmost to help produce a second and third Park In-bee here.”

Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, “Golf courses have now gone beyond being mere sports facilities to become complex leisure infrastructure that drives the local economy,” adding, “We will enhance regional competitiveness through business models that link sports, tourism, and accommodation.”
