김정기 대구광역시장 권한대행(행정부시장)과 이철우 경상북도지사는 2일 국회를 방문해 더불어민주당 신정훈 행정안전위원장, 한병도 원내대표, 한정애 정책위의장을 차례로 만났다.

이 자리에서 양 시·도지사는 "대구경북 행정통합은 단순히 지역의 문제가 아니라 광주·전남, 대전·충남과 함께 국가 균형발전을 이끄는 **'5극 3특 성장전략'**의 핵심"이라며 민주당이 견지해 온 균형발전 기조와의 일치성을 강조했다. 이에 민주당 지도부는 지방소멸 대응이라는 취지에 공감하며 특별법 논의 과정에서 충분한 협의를 이어가겠다는 긍정적인 답변을 내놓았다.
