그는 이날 오전 울진군 '원자력수소 국가산업단지' 후보지 현장에서 열린 ‘서해수호의 날’ 기념식에 참석해 호국 영령을 기리고 곧장 울진으로 달려와 지역의 지형도를 바꿀 '에너지 대전환'의 비전을 쏟아냈다.

 "울진은 '에너지 부자', 이제는 산업 거점“

이 후보의 이번 방문은 단순한 인사를 넘어선 '정책 투어'에 가까웠다는 평가다. 그는 울진 노인회와 박형수 국회의원 사무소를 차례로 돌며 민심을 훑은 뒤, 곧장 오션리조트 개발 현장과 수소 산단 후보지로 발걸음을 옮겼다.

이 후보는 현장에서 "지방 불균형의 핵심은 에너지의 비대칭"이라고 꼬집으며 ”울진의 원자력이라는 강력한 자산을 바탕으로 '생산-저장-운송-활용'이 한 번에 이뤄지는 수소경제 전주기 생태계를 구축해 울진을 대한민국을 넘어 글로벌 수소 산업의 메카로 만들겠다“고 포부를 밝혔다. 

이 후보에 따르면 '울진군 5대 공약'은 산업과 정주 여건을 촘촘히 엮은 입체적인 설계도처럼 상당히 구체적이다. 주 내용으로는 원자력 기반 청정수소 산단 조성, 초광역 교통망 '사통팔달 울진', 웰니스 관광 벨트, 24시간 응급 의료 체계, 청년·신혼부부 정주 여건 개선 등이 포함됐다. 

이 예비후보는 이외에 후포와 죽변권을 중심으로 한 대규모 호텔·리조트 유치 계획을 언급하며, 울진의 수려한 자연환경에 '자본'과 '콘텐츠'라는 날개를 달아주겠다고 약속했다.

그는 "울진은 에너지와 자연이라는 두 마리 토끼를 다 가진 잠재력 끝판왕 지역"이라고 강조하고 ”도지사의 결단력과 뚝심으로 울진을 동해안 시대의 핵심 성장 거점으로 반드시 키워내겠다"고 거듭 강조했다.
