대형 산불이 발생한 경북 울진에서 모두가 혼란에 빠진 틈을 이용해 빈집털이를 시도한 40대 여성이 경찰에 붙잡혔다.

지난 6일 경찰은 야간주거침입 절도미수 혐의로 체포된 A씨에 대해 구속영장을 신청했다고 밝혔다.

산불이 시작된 지난 4일 홀로 버스를 타고 울진에 도착한 A씨는 산불로 인해 주민 대피령이 내려지자 주택을 돌며 범행 장소를 물색한 것으로 알려진다.

A씨는 처음으로 들어간 집에선 훔칠 만한 물건을 찾지 못해 빈손으로 나온 것으로 확인되었으며 이후 두 번째 집에 찾아가 훔칠 물건을 수색하던 중, 다시 집으로 돌아온 집주인에게 발각되면서 범행은 미수에 그쳤다.

경찰 관계자는 “A씨가 자원봉사를 하러 왔다고 말하고 돌아다니면서 빈집에 들어간 것으로 보인다”고 전했다.
