경북의 체육인들이  일본 도쿄올림픽 조직위원회의 독도영유권 침탈을 강력 항의했다. 

경상북도체육회(회장 김하영)는 23일  ‘올림픽의 날‘ 맞아 대한민국 고유의 땅이자, 민족의 섬 독도에서 일본 정부와 도쿄 올림픽 조직위를 규탄하는 규탄 대회를 가졌다.

경북체육인들은 일본 도쿄올림픽 조직위원회 공식 홈페이지에 독도를 일본영토로 표기한 것을 즉시 삭제할 것을 촉구했다. 또, 대한민국 국민에게 사과할 것과 스포츠의 정치적 이용을 금지한 올림픽 헌장 위반에도 불구하고 이를 방관한 국제올림픽위원회(IOC)에도 강력 항의했다.  

특히, 이날 행사에서는 경북체육회 독도사랑스포츠공연단의 다양한 태권도 공연이 소개됐는데, 주 내용은 욱일기 송판 격파, 태권무 등  으로 독두 영유권을 강조한 내용으로 꾸며졌다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “스포츠를 정치적 목적으로 이용하는 일본의 행태는 세계평화에 이바지한다는 올림픽 정신을 훼손하는 행위”라며 “올림픽이 진정한 세계인의 화합의 장이 되도록 올림픽의 날을 맞이하여 300만 도민과 함께 독도 영유권 침탈에 대해 단호히 대응하여 영토 수호의 의지를 더욱 공고히 하겠다” 고 밝혔다.

경상북도체육회 김하영 회장도 “스포츠를 통한세계평화 실현이라는 올림픽 정신을 되새길 수 있도록 노력해야 함에도, 신성한 올림픽을 이용하여 독도가 일본영토라고 주장하고 있는 일본의 행태를 비난”하면서, “앞으로도 경북체육회에서 운영 중인 수영팀, 레슬링팀, 유도팀과 독도사랑스포츠공연단 등 스포츠를 통해 독도에 대한 사랑과 관심을 고취시켜 나가겠다”고 강조했다. 

한편, 경상북도체육회는 2013년 독도스포츠단을 창단해 수영, 레슬링, 유도 등 3개 팀을 운영하고 있으며, 2014년 창단한 독도사랑스포츠공연단은 각종 체육대회 및 국가교류문화행사에서 독도홍보와 독도영토수호에 앞장서 오고 있다.
