대구시당은 2일 논평을 통해 “우리 헌법 제21조 제1항은 ‘모든 국민은 언론·출판의 자유와 집회·결사의 자유를 가진다’고 규정하고 있다.”며 “표현의 자유를 헌법에서 보장하고 있는 이유는 표현의 자유가 국민주권을 실현하는데 필수불가결하며 오늘날 민주국가에서 국민이 갖는 가장 중요한 기본권의 하나이기 때문인데, 법률가 출신인 홍준표 시장이 이를 모르지는 않을 것”이라고 꼬집었다.그러면서 “자신은 SNS를 통해 마음껏 표현의 자유를 누리고 있으면서 대구시민의 목소리는 듣기 싫다는 것인가. 홍준표 시장은 자신에게 투표해준 분들이 중앙정치인들이 아니라 대구시민임을 잊어서는 안된다.”고 거듭 강조했다. 

특히 대구시당은 “홍준표 시장이 귀 기울여야 할 목소리는 중앙의 목소리가 아니라 대구시민의 목소리”라 강조하고 “동인청사 앞을 화단으로 가득 채울 것이 아니라, 대구시민들의 목소리로 가득 채우길 바란다”고 통제선을 거둘 것을 촉구했다.
