【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=영진전문대학교가 일본의 고등학생들이 대구경북영어마을을 찾아 체험에 나선 소식을 전했다.

대구경북영어마을은 영진전문대가 운영 중인 영어교육시설로 경북 칠곡군 지천면 연화리에 위치해 있다.

코로나19 발생 전까지만 해도 영어마을엔 일본인 학생들의 방문이 제법 이어졌던 마을은 최근 3년간 외국 학생들의 발길이 뚝 끊어져 있었다.

그러나 최근 코로나 먹구름이 걷히는 분위기에 일본 아이치현 소재 우베고등전문학교 등 7개교가 봄방학 기간인 지난 6일부터 17일까지 재학생 48명을 대구경북마을에 입소시켰다.

12박 13일의 영어집중캠프는 원어민 강사와 함께하는 ▶상황체험(은행, 우체국, 경찰서, 식료품점, 병원, 여행사 등) 회화 ▶비즈니스 면접 및 프레젠테이션 등의 프로그램으로 구성되어 있다.

니이하마 국립 고등전문학교 4학년생 토미노 코코로(富野心·19)양은 “영어마을 같은 곳은 처음이라 입소할 때 많이 긴장했는데 1주일이 지난 지금은 원어민 교사들과 소통도 훨씬 수월해졌다. 밥도 맛있고 시설도 예쁘고, 또 새로운 친구들이 많이 생겨 더더욱 좋다. 한국에 영어마을 같은 곳이 있어 부럽기도 하고 기회가 된다면 영어공부 더 해서 또 오고 싶다”고 소감을 전했다.

류용희 대구경북영어마을 원장은“우리 영어마을은 미국 오번대학교와 교육협력 협약을 체결해 다양한 영어체험 과정을 운영하고 있다. 특히 영어권 우수한 원어민 교사 50여 명이 해외에 나가지 않더라도 실제적인 현지 상황체험을 이곳 영어마을서 직접 경험할 수 있도록 체험프로그램 운영과 지원에 최선을 다하고 있다”면서 “대구경북 학생들의 글로벌 역량을 높이고 나아가 해외 학생들도 적극 유치하는 등 영어체험 교육장으로서 역할을 충실히 수행해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.

한편 대구경북영어마을을 운영 중인 영진전문대학교는 포스트 코로나를 맞아 지난 겨울방학에 일본 현지를 방문, 한일 교육기관 간 교류와 확대를 협의하고 MOU를 체결하면서 일본 학생들이 재방문하는 물꼬 마련에 노력을 이어가고 있다.
