【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=영진전문대학교(총장 최재영)이 후원하는 ‘제1회 대한티볼협회장배 전국대학생 티볼대회’가 오는 9일 대구 북구 고성동 대구시복합스포츠타운 야구장에서 열린다.

이번 대회는 대한티볼협회(KTO)가 주최하고, 영진전문대학교와 ㈜메스코리아가 후원한다. 전국 단위 대학생을 대상으로 열리는 첫 티볼 대회로, 종목의 보급과 저변 확대를 목표로 하고 있다.

참가팀은 영진전문대학교의 스포츠재활과, 응급구조과, 국방군사계열, 보건의료행정과, 동물보건과 등 5개 팀과 부천대학교 응급구조과 1개 팀을 포함해 총 6개 팀, 250여 명에 달한다.

티볼(tee-ball)은 야구를 변형한 스포츠로, 투수 없이 홈플레이트 뒤에 고정된 배팅 티 위에 공을 올려놓고 타자가 치는 방식이다. 야구와 유사한 경기 방식이지만 도루나 슬라이딩은 금지되어 있어 비교적 안전하게 즐길 수 있다.

앞서 지난 4월, 영진전문대학교와 대한티볼협회는 ‘티볼대회 경기운영인력 양성 및 지원’을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다. 양 기관은 앞으로 대회 심판 및 기록요원 등 경기운영 인력을 공동 양성·지원하기로 협의했다.

이번 대회는 대학생들에게 티볼을 알리는 계기이자, 팀워크와 스포츠맨십을 키울 수 있는 기회가 될 것으로 기대된다.

김대한 영진전문대학교 스포츠재활과 학과장(교수)은 “티볼은 누구나 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 스포츠로, 단체 경기 특성상 소통과 협력의 중요성을 배울 수 있다”며 “이번 대회를 통해 대학생들이 건강한 신체 활동과 함께 새로운 스포츠 문화를 경험하길 바란다”고 전했다.

Tee-ball is a modified version of baseball, where the ball is placed on a batting tee fixed behind home plate without a pitcher and the batter hits it. It is a similar game to baseball, but stealing and sliding are prohibited, making it relatively safe to play.

In April, Yeungjin College and the Korea Teeball Association signed a business agreement (MOU) for ‘Training and Supporting Teeball Competition Operation Personnel.’ The two organizations agreed to jointly train and support tournament operation personnel, including tournament referees and record keepers.

This competition is expected to be an opportunity to introduce teeball to college students and to foster teamwork and sportsmanship.

Professor Kim Dae-han, head of the Department of Sports Rehabilitation at Yeungjin College, said, “Teaball is a sport that anyone can easily approach, and because it is a team sport, you can learn the importance of communication and cooperation,” and added, “I hope that college students will experience a new sports culture along with healthy physical activities through this competition.”
