영덕군에 따르면, 지난 19일 오후 하저해수욕장에서 평상에 앉아 휴식을 취하던 중국인 관광객 A씨가 갑작스럽게 심정지 증세를 보이며 의식을 잃고 쓰러졌다. 현장에 배치된 수상인명구조요원 4명은 즉시 상황을 인지하고 A씨의 상태를 확인한 뒤 곧바로 심폐소생술(CPR)을 실시했다.

구조요원들은 정확한 압박 속도와 깊이를 유지하며 릴레이 방식으로 심폐소생술을 이어갔고, 이들의 신속하고 체계적인 대응 덕분에 A씨는 점차 의식을 회복했다.

이후 현장에 도착한 119 구급대는 A씨에게 추가 응급처치를 시행한 뒤 인근 병원으로 긴급 이송했으며, 현재 안정적인 상태를 유지 중으로 생명에는 지장이 없는 것으로 알려졌다.

이번 사례는 영덕군이 운영 중인 해수욕장 구조요원 배치 및 정기적인 응급처치 훈련의 성과를 입증한 사례로 평가받고 있다. 영덕군은 관내 7개 지정 해수욕장에 구조요원을 배치하고, 여름철 성수기 기간 동안 체계적인 안전 대응 훈련을 지속적으로 시행하고 있다.

김광열 영덕군수는 “많은 피서객이 찾는 여름철, 한순간의 방심이 큰 사고로 이어질 수 있다”며, “철저한 훈련과 인명구조 인력의 전문성 강화를 통해 누구나 안심하고 찾을 수 있는 해수욕장을 만들어가겠다”고 밝혔다.
