이번에 도입된 주요 기술은 ▲크레인 작업관리 자동화 ▲스마트 CCTV 기반 마킹 자동 인식 시스템이다. 이를 통해 작업자는 반복적인 확인 업무에서 벗어나 보다 효율적이고 안전한 환경에서 작업할 수 있게 됐다.

특히 스마트 CCTV 기반 마킹 자동 인식 시스템은 소재 이동과 출하 과정에서 필요한 식별·확인 절차를 디지털 방식으로 전환함으로써 인적 오류를 최소화하고, 슬라브 야드 운영의 신뢰성과 안정성을 크게 향상시켰다.

포스코DX와 협업해 이번 스마트 기술 개발을 주도한 제강부 조재성 대리는 “현장에서 반복적으로 발생하던 불필요한 업무를 줄이고, 작업자가 더욱 안전한 환경에서 일할 수 있도록 하는 데 중점을 뒀다”며 “앞으로도 현장 특성을 반영한 맞춤형 스마트 혁신 기술을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편 포항제철소는 포스코형 AI 제철소 구현을 목표로 AX(Advanced Transformation) 분야 투자를 지속하고 있으며, 디지털 혁신과 AI 기술을 선도할 전문 인력 양성을 통해 미래 철강 경쟁력 강화에 박차를 가할 계획이다.
