장인화 회장은 31일 창립기념사를 통해 “58년 전 황량한 영일만에서 시작된 포스코의 도전은 대한민국 산업화의 초석을 다지는 역사적 전환점이었다”며 “선배 임직원들의 헌신과 열정이 오늘의 포스코를 만든 원동력”이라고 밝혔다.

이어 협력사와 고객사, 공급사, 주주 등 이해관계자들에게 감사의 뜻을 전하며 “철강을 기반으로 출발한 포스코그룹은 에너지소재, 에너지 사업, 신사업으로 영역을 확장하며 글로벌 기업으로 도약하고 있다”고 평가했다.

다만 최근 경영환경에 대해서는 강한 위기감을 드러냈다. 장 회장은 “강대국 간 패권 경쟁에 따른 보호무역주의 확산과 자원의 무기화, 글로벌 분쟁 등은 그룹 전반에 중대한 영향을 미치고 있다”며 “유례없이 불확실하고 험난한 상황에 직면해 있다”고 진단했다.

이에 따라 창업 정신을 바탕으로 한 대응을 주문했다. 그는 “담대한 도전과 과업 완수의 책임, 창의에 대한 신념이라는 포스코 정신이 현재에도 살아 있어야 한다”며 “이를 통해 위기를 기회로 전환해야 한다”고 강조했다.

구체적인 경영 방향으로는 ▲혁신과 집요한 실행력을 통한 경영목표 달성 ▲철강 본원 경쟁력 강화와 에너지소재 사업 고도화 ▲미래 산업을 선도할 ‘넥스트 코어(Next Core)’ 사업 육성 등을 제시했다.

특히 “철강 부문의 세계 최고 수준 경쟁력을 유지하는 동시에 우량 자원 확보를 통해 에너지소재 사업을 한층 강화해야 한다”며 “어떠한 환경에서도 지속 성장 가능한 사업 기반을 구축해야 한다”고 밝혔다.

또한 노사 간 협력의 중요성도 재차 강조했다. 장 회장은 “포스코는 위기 때마다 임직원 간 신뢰와 결속으로 이를 극복해왔다”며 “앞으로도 노사가 함께 힘을 모아 예상치 못한 난관을 극복해 나가야 한다”고 말했다.

끝으로 “포스코는 철강과 에너지소재, 에너지 사업을 통해 글로벌 공급망의 핵심축으로서 더 큰 역할을 수행하게 될 것”이라며 “경영목표 달성과 지속성장 기반 강화, 노사 화합을 통해 그룹 가치의 ‘퀀텀 점프’를 이루자”고 당부했다.

He also reiterated the importance of cooperation between labor and management. Chairman Jang stated, “POSCO has overcome crises through trust and solidarity among its employees,” adding, “We must continue to join forces with labor and management to overcome unexpected challenges.”

Finally, he urged, “POSCO will play an even greater role as a key axis of the global supply chain through its steel, energy materials, and energy businesses,” and called for “achieving a ‘quantum jump’ in group value by achieving management goals, strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth, and fostering harmony between labor and management.”
