이번 행사는 2008년부터 시작해 올해로 19년째 이어지고 있는 포스코 포항제철소의 대표적인 지역사회 협력 프로그램으로, 취약계층 지원과 전통시장 활성화를 통해 사회적 가치를 창출하는 상생 활동으로 자리매김하고 있다. 특히 포항시, 전통시장 상인회, 포스코가 함께 구축한 지역상생 네트워크를 기반으로 매년 명절마다 온정이 필요한 이웃들에게 도움의 손길을 전하고 있다.

이날 포항제철소 소장단과 파트너사 대표 등 30여 명은 해도동과 송도동에 위치한 ‘포스코 나눔의 집’을 찾아 600여 명의 어르신들에게 따뜻한 식사를 제공하고 명절 인사와 안부를 전했다. 경기 침체로 어려움을 겪는 이웃들에게 힘과 위로를 전하기 위해 영양을 고려한 메뉴도 마련했다.

이어 큰동해시장, 대해불빛시장, 송림시장 등 5개 전통시장에서 ‘설 맞이 장보기’ 행사가 진행됐다. 포항제철소 임직원과 파트너사 직원 약 700여 명이 참여해 명절 음식 마련을 위한 식재료를 비롯해 참기름, 건어물, 과일, 제수용품 등 약 300만 원 상당의 물품을 구매하며 지역상권 활성화에 힘을 보탰다. 행사에는 조민성 시의원과 유호성 해도동장, 강동성 해도동개발자문위원장, 김병석 큰동해시장 상인회장 등도 함께해 상인들과 소통하는 시간을 가졌다.

큰동해시장의 한 상인은 “입춘이 지나 겨울바람 속에서도 봄기운이 느껴지는 날, 포스코 직원들 덕분에 오랜만에 시장이 활기를 되찾았다”며 “단순한 소비를 넘어 서로 안부를 묻고 마음을 나누는 시간이 됐다. 이런 온정이 이어진다면 시장에도, 지역에도 진짜 봄이 찾아올 것 같다”고 말했다.

포항제철소 관계자는 “포스코의 나눔 활동은 19년째 연대와 협력을 바탕으로 이어지고 있다”며 “이번 설 명절이 이웃 모두에게 웃음과 행복이 피어나는 시간이 되길 바라며, 앞으로도 지역 기반 상생활동을 통해 지역사회에 긍정적인 변화를 만들어가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 포스코 포항제철소는 재능봉사단 운영을 비롯한 다양한 사회공헌활동을 통해 지속가능한 지역사회 조성과 상생의 가치를 꾸준히 실천해 나갈 계획이다.

Building on the local network established by Pohang City, the Traditional Market Merchants Association, and POSCO, the company extends a helping hand to neighbors in need every holiday season.

On this day, approximately 30 Pohang Works managers and representatives from partner companies visited the "POSCO Sharing House" in Haedo-dong and Songdo-dong to provide warm meals and offer holiday greetings to approximately 600 senior citizens. To provide strength and comfort to neighbors struggling due to the economic downturn, a nutritious menu was also prepared.

Following this, a "Seollal Shopping" event was held at five traditional markets, including Keundae Market, Daehae Bulbit Market, and Songnim Market. Approximately 700 employees from POSCO and partner companies participated, purchasing approximately 3 million won worth of items, including holiday ingredients, sesame oil, dried fish, fruit, and ancestral rites supplies, contributing to the revitalization of local businesses. City Council Member Cho Min-seong, Haedo-dong Mayor Yoo Ho-seong, Haedo-dong Development Advisory Committee Chairman Kang Dong-seong, and Keundae Market Merchants Association President Kim Byeong-seok also attended the event and engaged with the merchants.

A merchant at Daedonghae Market said, "It's been a long time since the beginning of spring, and even in the winter wind, spring is felt. Thanks to POSCO employees, the market has been revitalized for the first time in a while." He added, "It's a time for people to go beyond simple consumption and exchange greetings and feelings. If this kind of warmth continues, I think true spring will come to the market and the region."

A representative from Pohang Works stated, "POSCO's sharing activities have been built on solidarity and cooperation for 19 years. We hope this Lunar New Year holiday will be a time of laughter and happiness for all our neighbors. We will continue to create positive change in the local community through community-based, mutually beneficial activities."

Meanwhile, POSCO Pohang Works plans to continue to foster a sustainable community and practice the value of mutual prosperity through various social contribution activities, including the operation of a talent volunteer group.
