지난 4일부터 계속되는 울진 산불로 진화인력과 지역주민들이 큰 어려움을 겪고 있는 가운데 자원봉사자들의 헌신적인 지원이 재난현장에서 큰 힘이 되고 있다.

경북도는 산불발생 나흘째인 7일까지 50개 단체, 총1700여명의 자원봉사자들이 휴일과 생업을 뒤로한 채 산불로 어려움을 겪고 있는 울진 전역에서 자원봉사활동을 펼치고 있다고 8일 밝혔다.

도에 따르면 산불현장에서는 의용소방대가 소방청, 산림청과 협조해 산불 진화에 전력을 다하고 있으며, 산불 현장지휘소 인근 통합자원봉사지원단에서는 새마을회, 여성자원봉사회 등이 밤새 도시락과 지원물자 세트를 제작해 매일 아침 산불진화에 투입되는 4000명이 넘는 인력을 돕고 있다.

또 울진국민체육센터에 차려진 임시대피소에서는 자원봉사센터, 적십자사와 생활개선회 등이 화마에 생활터전을 잃은 이재민들의 식사와 생필품 지원에 최선을 다하고 있다.

타 지역에서도 울진 주민을 위한 자원봉사의 손길은 이어졌다.

적십자사 경북지사는 충청권까지 협조해 이재민 구호에 앞장서고 있으며, 대구 소재의 마음이 아름다운 재단과 아름다운 동행 재단에서도 달려와 지원을 아끼지 않고 있다.

이 같은 자원봉사자들의 헌신적인 지원에 이철우 경북도지사는“급박하게 돌아가는 현장에서 산불진화에 모든 역량을 쏟을 수 있도록 지원해주는 자원봉사자들께 감사드린다”며, “자원봉사자들의 노력에 조속한 산불진화로 보답하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 7일에는 울진군자율방재단, 인근 주민, 적십자사, 의용소방대, 새마을회 등 44개 단체 689명이 산불진화와 급식지원 등의 자원봉사 활동을 펼쳤다.
