박영환 후보는 최근 김경원 경선후보를 만나 영천의 발전과 국민의힘 승리를 위해 상임선대위원장을 맡아줄 것을 요청하고 이를 김 전 후보가 수락한 것으로 알려졌다. 

 두 사람은 “최기문 후보는 4년 내내 영천의 미래비전에 대한 고민은 접어두고, 재선을 위한 보여 주기식 행정에 치중했다”며 “민원인을 피하고, 네편 내편 갈라치기로 시민의 통합에 실패했다. 재선이 되면 영천은 더 정체될 것”이라고 강조했다. 

이어 김 위원장은 “영천의 발전과 시장교체를 통한 정권교체 완성을 위하여 박영환 후보를 돕기로 결정했다“고 거듭 강조하고 “정체된 영천의 지속가능한 발전을 위해선 힘 있는 여당 시장이 반드시 필요하다는 것을 알기 때문에 상임선대위원장을 수락했다.“고 합류이유를 설명했다.

김경원 상임선대위원장은 대구지방국세청장 출신으로 행정고시에 합격해 국세청에서 20년, 재무부에서 10년을 보낸 ‘경제통’으로, 그의 합류로 박영환 후보의 지역경제 활성화 및 영천발전 로드맵 제시가 구체화되는 등 시장교체의 가능성이 높아질 것으로 기대했다.
