포스코는 9월 9일부터 9월 13일까지 총 5일간 지불 기준을 한시적으로 조정해 거래 대금을 매일 지불한다고 밝혔다. 이번 조기지불 대금 규모는 약 2,000억원에 이른다.

설비자재 구매대금, 원료비, 공사비는 매주 두 차례 지급해오던 대금을 매일 지급하고, 매월 초 지급하는 협력사의 협력작업비도 해당 기간 내 3차례에 걸쳐 지불하는 방식으로 한시 조정된다. 이로 인해 9월 1일부터 10일까지 수행된 협력작업에 대한 비용이 최대 21일 앞당겨 처리될 예정이다.

포스코 관계자는 “이번 대금 조기지급이 철강 불황, 경기 침체로 힘든 시기를 보내고 있을 거래기업들에게 작게나마 도움이 되길 바란다”고 전했다.

포스코는 지난 2004년 12월부터 중소기업에 대한 납품대금 전액을 현금으로 지급해오고 있으며, 매년 설과 추석 등 명절에 앞서 거래기업의 자금난을 해소하고자 자금을 조기 지급해왔다. 특히 2017년 11월부터는 중견기업 대금 결제 시에도 전액 현금으로 지급함으로써 현금결제의 혜택이 2·3차 거래사까지 확산될 수 있도록 하고 있다.

Since December 2004, POSCO has been paying all of its supply prices to small and medium-sized companies in cash, and has been paying early every year to relieve financial difficulties faced by its business partners before holidays such as Lunar New Year and Chuseok. In particular, since November 2017, it has been paying all of its payments to medium-sized companies in cash, allowing the benefits of cash payments to extend to second- and third-tier business partners.
