【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스는  11일 교내 및 인근 지역에서 ‘2025년 4.19 혁명 기념식 및 동국인 플로깅대회’를 개최했다.

이번 행사는 4.19 혁명 당시 민주주의 수호를 위해 헌신했던 동국대 선배들의 숭고한 뜻을 기리고, 재학생과 교직원, 동문 등 전 동국인이 함께 화합하는 시간을 갖기 위해 마련됐다. 행사에는 약 2,500여 명이 참여해 성황을 이뤘다.

예년에는 경주 남산에서 기념 등산대회 형식으로 진행되었으나, 올해는 전국적인 산불 재난 상황을 고려해 행사 형식을 ‘플로깅 대회’로 전환했다. 캠퍼스와 인근 지역인 석장동, 현곡면 일대에서 진행된 이번 플로깅 대회는 지역 환경을 가꾸는 활동과 함께 지역사회에 대한 대학의 책임과 역할을 되새기는 계기가 됐다.

또한, 이날 행사에서는 2025 APEC 정상회의의 성공적인 개최를 기원하는 퍼포먼스도 학생들과 함께 펼쳐져 의미를 더했다.

류완하 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 총장은 개회사를 통해 “이번 플로깅 대회는 4.19 혁명의 민주주의 정신을 되새기고, 모두가 함께 화합하는 시간을 마련하고자 했다”며 “동국대가 추구하는 글로컬(Glocal) 대학의 방향에 맞춰 지역사회 구성원으로서 지역과 함께 성장하는 대학의 역할을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

행사에 참여한 스포츠의학과 2학년 이서안 학생은 “선배들의 희생을 통해 민주주의의 소중함을 다시금 깨달았고, 플로깅 활동을 통해 환경문제의 심각성도 실감할 수 있었다”며 “건강도 챙기고 지역을 위해 봉사할 수 있어 의미 있는 시간이었다”고 소감을 전했다.

동국대 WISE캠퍼스는 앞으로도 지역사회와 상생하며, 대학의 사회적 책임을 다하기 위한 다양한 프로그램을 지속적으로 마련해 나갈 계획이다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus held the ‘2025 April 19 Revolution Commemoration Ceremony and Dongguk University Plogging Competition’ on campus and in nearby areas on the 11th.

In previous years, it was held in the form of a commemorative mountaineering competition at Namsan Mountain in Gyeongju, but this year, considering the nationwide forest fire disaster situation, the event format was changed to a ‘Plogging Competition.’ This plogging competition, which was held on campus and in nearby areas such as Seokjang-dong and Hyeongok-myeon, served as an opportunity to reflect on the university’s responsibility and role in the local community along with activities to improve the local environment.

In addition, the event on this day also had a performance with students to wish for the successful hosting of the 2025 APEC Summit, adding to its meaning.

In his opening remarks, Dongguk University WISE Campus President Ryu Wan-ha stated, “This plogging competition was intended to recall the democratic spirit of the April 19 Revolution and provide a time for everyone to come together in harmony,” and “In line with the direction of the Glocal university that Dongguk University pursues, we will fulfill our role as a university that grows together with the local community.”

Lee Seo-an, a second-year student in the Department of Sports Medicine who participated in the event, said, “Through the sacrifices of my seniors, I realized the importance of democracy once again, and through the plogging activity, I was able to realize the seriousness of environmental issues,” and “It was a meaningful time because I was able to take care of my health and serve the local community.”

Dongguk University WISE Campus plans to continue to prepare various programs to coexist with the local community and fulfill the university’s social responsibility.
