동국대 WISE캠퍼스 RISE 사업추진단은 2026년부터 ‘신라시민대학’을 본격 운영하고, 경북 RISE 사업의 일환으로 경주시민과 동국대 재학생을 대상으로 명예 학사·석사·박사 학위 과정을 개설할 계획이라고 8일 밝혔다.

신라시민대학은 경북 RISE사업추진단 지속가능평생‧직업교육사업단이 설계한 플래그십 프로그램으로, 경주 지역 정체성과 평생학습의 결합을 목표로 한다. 대학은 해당 사업을 통해 시민들이 교육, 도시 역사, 미래 전략을 함께 공유하는 고품격 시민학위 모델을 구축한다는 방침이다.

본 사업 출범에 앞서 올해는 ‘신라의 향기’ ‘신라의 치유’ ‘신라와 불교’ 등 세 가지 모듈을 중심으로 사전 학기가 시범 운영되고 있다. 프로그램은 강의와 현장 답사, 체험을 결합한 방식으로 진행되며, 대학과 지역사회, 시민이 연결되는 새로운 학습 플랫폼으로 실험 중이다.

2026년 정식 운영 단계에서는 교육 범위를 확장해 AI 협력, 인구구조 변화 대응 등 APEC 경주 정상회의 주요 의제를 포함한 커리큘럼을 도입한다. 대학 측은 신라의 역사·문화와 미래 담론을 결합해 ‘경주형 글로벌 시민대학’으로 확장시키겠다고 설명했다.
