【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 지역의사양성사업단(단장 이관 의과대학장)과 경상북도교육청연구원(원장 이상진)은 지난 17일과 18일 이틀간 경주 화랑마을과 동국대학교 경주병원에서 ‘경상북도 중학생 의학진로캠프’를 성공적으로 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 캠프는 지역 청소년들의 의학 계열 진학 꿈을 지원하고, 향후 지역 의료 인력으로의 정착을 유도하기 위해 마련됐으며, 지자체가 대학 지원의 주도권을 갖는 RISE(지역혁신 중심 대학지원체계) 사업의 취지를 적극 반영한 프로그램으로 평가받고 있다. 특히 지역 대학의 우수한 인적·물적 인프라를 청소년 교육과 직접 연계한 실질적인 지역혁신 모델을 제시했다는 점에서 의미를 더했다.

경상북도 전역에서 선발된 중학생들은 캠프 기간 동안 동국대학교 의과대학 교수진의 지도 아래 의학 이론을 체계적으로 학습하고, 실제 의료 현장을 견학하는 등 다양한 체험 프로그램에 참여했다. 학생 개개인의 이름이 새겨진 의사 가운 착용식과 인체 모형을 활용한 해부학 실습은 참가 학생들로부터 큰 호응을 얻으며 높은 만족도를 보였다.

수료식에 참석한 한 학부모는 “아이의 진로에 대한 고민이 많았는데, 지역의 우수한 의과대학과 병원에서 직접 체험할 수 있어 매우 뜻깊었다”며 “지역 내에서도 수준 높은 의학 교육을 받을 수 있다는 확신을 갖게 됐다”고 말했다.

이관 동국대학교 의과대학장은 “이번 캠프를 계기로 지역 인재들이 타 지역으로 유출되지 않고 지역 의과대학에 진학해, 장차 지역 의료계를 이끄는 핵심 인재로 성장하는 선순환 구조를 강화해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “오는 24일과 25일에는 고등학생을 대상으로 한 의학진로캠프도 예정돼 있다”며 “예비 의료인에게 필요한 심화 지식과 현장 경험을 제공해 실질적인 지역 의료 인력 양성으로 이어질 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
