【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 유아교육과가 지난 7월 2일부터 3일까지, 전라남도 장성 백양사 천진암에서 ‘정관스님과 함께하는 전통 사찰음식 체험 템플스테이’를 진행했다고 밝혔다.

이번 템플스테이는 사찰음식 체험, 새벽 예불과 명상, 108배 염주 만들기, 탑돌이 수행 등으로 구성됐으며, 유아교육과 교수진과 재학생, 동국대 부속유치원 교직원들이 함께 참여해 수행의 의미와 불교적 가치를 직접 체험하는 시간을 가졌다.

프로그램을 이끈 정관스님은 한국 전통 사찰음식 명장으로, 아시아 50 베스트 레스토랑 어워드 ‘아이콘상’을 수상하며 세계적 명성을 얻은 인물이다. 정관스님은 “사찰음식은 단순한 요리가 아니라, 마음을 다스리고 자연과 생명을 잇는 수행”이라며, 예비유아교사들에게 “아이들을 있는 그대로 받아들이는 삶의 지혜를 실천하길 바란다”고 전했다.

참여한 재학생들은 “자연과 생명에 대한 감사의 마음을 새롭게 인식하게 되었고, 사찰음식을 통해 전해지는 수행의 태도가 유아를 대하는 교사의 자세와도 맞닿아 있음을 느꼈다”며, “교사로서 더욱 따뜻한 마음으로 아이들을 마주하겠다”는 소감을 밝혔다.

김은경 유아교육과 학과장은 “이번 체험은 불교 유아교육의 핵심인 ‘생명존중’과 ‘발달의 적기(適期)’ 개념을 체험적으로 이해할 수 있도록 기획된 교육 프로그램”이라며, “예비교사들이 자비와 절제를 실천하며 아이들을 따뜻하게 품는 교사로 성장하길 바란다”고 전했다.

동국대 부속유치원장인 능견스님(안현정 교수) 역시 “교육은 교사와 유아가 맺는 관계의 순간들 속에서 완성된다”며, “이번 템플스테이가 교육자 내면의 성찰을 일깨우는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 유아교육과는 앞으로도 불교의 정신과 전통문화를 접목한 다양한 체험형 프로그램을 통해 건학이념을 실현하고, 예비유아교사의 인성과 전문성 함양에 힘쓸 계획이다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus Early Childhood Education Department announced that it held ‘Traditional Temple Food Experience Temple Stay with Monk Jeonggwan’ at Cheonjinam, Baekyangsa Temple, Jangseong, Jeollanam-do from July 2 to 3.

This temple stay consisted of temple food experience, dawn prayer and meditation, making 108 prayer beads, and pagoda spinning, and the early childhood education faculty, students, and Dongguk University affiliated kindergarten staff participated together to directly experience the meaning of practice and Buddhist values.

Monk Jeonggwan, who led the program, is a master of traditional Korean temple food and has gained international fame by winning the ‘Icon Award’ at the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards. Monk Jeonggwan said, “Temple food is not just a simple dish, but a practice that disciplines the mind and connects nature and life,” and told prospective early childhood teachers, “I hope you practice the wisdom of life that accepts children as they are.”

The participating students said, “I have come to realize a new appreciation for nature and life, and I felt that the attitude of practice conveyed through temple food is in line with the attitude of teachers toward children,” and expressed their feelings, saying, “As a teacher, I will face children with a warmer heart.”

Eun-kyung Kim, the head of the Early Childhood Education Department, said, “This experience is an educational program designed to help students experientially understand the core concepts of Buddhist early childhood education, ‘respect for life’ and ‘the right time for development,’” and added, “I hope prospective teachers practice compassion and moderation and grow into teachers who warmly embrace children.”

Dongguk University Kindergarten Director Neunggyeon Seunim (Professor Ahn Hyeon-jeong) also said, “Education is completed in the moments of relationships between teachers and children,” and added, “I hope this temple stay will be an opportunity to awaken the inner reflection of educators.”

Dongguk University WISE Campus Early Childhood Education Department plans to continue to realize its founding philosophy through various experiential programs that combine the spirit of Buddhism and traditional culture, and to strive to cultivate the character and professionalism of prospective early childhood teachers.
