이날 회의에는 피해 주민들과 배상신(국민의힘·장량동), 정원석(국민의힘), 최광열(더불어민주당) 시의원, 포항시청 관계 공무원, 동부건설 측이 참석했다.

회의 도중 최광열 시의원이 “주민 피해에 대해 왜 조속한 조치가 이뤄지지 않느냐”고 묻자, 동부건설 측은 “공사 진동과 건물 피해 사이의 상관관계를 규명해야 한다”며 “판단이 어려워 시간이 걸린다”고 답했다.

이에 최 의원은 “주민들이 오랜 시간 일상에 큰 불편을 겪고 있다”며 “판단이 어려울 때는 피해를 준 것으로 간주하고 선제적 조치를 하는 것이 지역민을 위한 최소한의 배려”라고 지적했다.

이날 회의에 참석한 피해 주민 이모 씨는 “공사 시작 이후 피해를 외면해 온 것도 모자라, 시민의 대표기관인 시의회까지 무시하는 행동은 인구50만의 도시 포항을 무시하는 도 넘은 행동으로 도저히 납득할 수 없다”고 분통을 터뜨렸다.

동부건설 측은 공사 초기 “항타 시 발생하는 피해에 대해 적절한 보상을 하겠다”고 밝혔으나, “현재까지 별다른 후속 조치가 없다”는 게 주민들의 주장이다.

한편, 포항국제전시컨벤션센터는 최근 포항시 남구 동해면 도구리, 약전리, 신정리 일대 약 62만 8천㎡에 달하는 동해지구 토지구획정리 사업지에 현장 오염토를 반출한 의혹을 받고 있다.
