이번 요금 조정은 최근 물가 상승과 택시업계의 경영 여건 악화를 반영해 이뤄진 것으로, 기본운임 인상과 함께 거리·시간 운임도 일부 조정된다. 이에 따라 거리 운임은 100원당 131m에서 128m로, 시간 운임은 100원당 31초에서 30초로 변경된다. 심야할증 요금은 현행과 동일하게 유지된다.
포항시는 요금 인상에 따른 혼선을 최소화하기 위해 한 달간 집중 홍보에 나선다. 택시 차량 내 인상 안내문 부착과 BIS를 통한 홍보를 비롯해 읍·면·동 현수막 게시, 시 누리집과 각종 회의 등을 활용한 대시민 안내를 병행할 예정이다.
포항시 관계자는 “이번 택시요금 인상은 업계의 경영 안정과 서비스 품질 향상을 위한 불가피한 조치”라며 “인상된 요금이 시민들에게 더 나은 서비스로 돌아갈 수 있도록 노력하겠다. 시민들의 이해와 협조를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.
한편 이번 요금 인상은 지난달 4일 경상북도 물가정책위원회에서 택시 요금과 요율 인상이 확정된 데 따른 후속 조치로, 포항시는 지난달 23일 택시운송사업자 간담회를 열어 세부 조정 사항을 확정하는 등 관련 절차를 거쳤다.
