【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=‘2025 경상북도 새마을지도자대회’가 9일 포항실내체육관에서 도내 새마을지도자 2,000여 명이 참석한 가운데 개최됐다. 올해 대회는 ‘미래를 잇는 새마을, 세계로 가는 경북’을 슬로건으로 진행됐으며, 12년 만에 포항에서 열려 의미를 더했다.

이날 행사에는 이철우 경상북도지사, 이강덕 포항시장, 박성만 경북도의회 의장, 김일만 포항시의회 의장, 전종율 청도군의회 의장 등 지역 주요 인사들이 참석해 새마일운동의 성과를 공유하고 지도자들의 노고를 격려했다.

대회는 시·군 대표단 입장식을 시작으로 축하공연과 성과보고, 유공자 표창 등이 이어지며 상생과 협력을 기반으로 한 공동체 비전이 논의되는 자리로 꾸며졌다.

올해 평가에서 포항시새마을회(회장 이상해)는 경상북도 새마을종합평가 시·군 새마을회 부문 최우수상에 선정됐다. 또한 포항시새마을부녀회가 최우수상, 새마을지도자포항시협의회가 우수상, 직장·공장새마을운동포항시협의회가 장려상을 각각 수상했다. 더불어 포항시는 시·군 특수시책 우수상과 읍·면·동 특수시책 우수상도 거두며 새마을운동 전 분야에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

경북 지역 새마을지도자들은 근면·자조·협동 정신을 바탕으로 취약계층 돌봄, 탄소중립 실천, 재난 대응, 환경정화, 재활용품 수거, 지역 나눔 활동 등을 지속적으로 수행하며 지역사회 발전에 기여해 왔다.

이상해 포항시새마을회장은 “올 한 해 지역을 위해 헌신한 지도자들의 노력이 값진 성과로 이어졌다”며 “앞으로도 지역 발전과 나눔 실천에 앞장서겠다”고 말했다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “지역을 위해 묵묵히 봉사한 새마을지도자들의 노고에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “앞으로도 시민과 함께할 다양한 공동체 사업을 추진해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

The Pohang City Saemaul Women's Association also received the Grand Prize, the Pohang City Saemaul Leaders Association received the Excellence Award, and the Pohang City Workplace/Factory Saemaul Movement Association received the Encouragement Award. Pohang City also received the Excellence Award for City/County Special Policies and the Excellence Award for Town/Myeon/Dong Special Policies, earning high recognition across all Saemaul Movement categories.

Saemaul leaders in the Gyeongbuk region have consistently contributed to the development of their communities through initiatives such as caring for vulnerable groups, practicing carbon neutrality, disaster response, environmental cleanups, recycling collection, and community sharing, all guided by a spirit of diligence, self-help, and cooperation.
