경북과학대 안경광학과 교수·강사와 재학생, 현직 안경사 등 총 17명은 지난 3일 칠곡군 석적읍 부영아파트 경로당을 방문해 어르신들을 대상으로 시기능 관리 봉사 프로그램을 진행했다.

이날 봉사에 참여한 학생들은 어르신들을 대상으로 시기능 검사를 실시하고, 개인별 시력 상태에 맞춘 돋보기를 제공했다. 또한 눈 건강 상담과 함께 간식을 나누며 어르신들과 따뜻한 교류의 시간을 가졌다.

안경광학과의 시기능 관리 봉사활동은 지난해 11월에도 이어졌다. 11월 11일에는 칠곡군 지천면 연호2리 마을회관에서, 11월 25일에는 가산면민운동장에서 각각 시기능 검사와 상담을 실시하며 지역 어르신들의 눈 건강을 세심하게 살폈다.

김대현 안경광학과 학과장은 “학생들이 전공 수업을 통해 습득한 지식을 현장에서 직접 활용하며 지역 주민에게 실질적인 도움을 줄 수 있어 더욱 의미 있는 시간이었다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회와 상생하는 봉사활동을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Kyungpook National University's Department of Optometry Conducts Vision Care Volunteer Program for Senior Citizens

As part of the College Innovation Support Project, the Department of Optometry at Kyungpook National University (President Eun-jae Jeong) continues its commitment to community service by continuing volunteer work to improve the eye health of senior citizens in the community.

On November 3rd, 17 members of the Department of Optometry, including professors, instructors, current students, and practicing opticians, visited the Buyeong Apartment Senior Center in Seokjeok-eup, Chilgok County to conduct a vision care volunteer program for the elderly.

The participating students conducted vision tests and provided magnifying glasses tailored to their individual vision needs. They also provided eye health consultations and shared snacks, fostering a warm and supportive environment for the elderly.

The Department of Optometry's vision care volunteer work continued in November of last year. On November 11th, the students conducted visual function tests and consultations at the Yeonho 2-ri Community Center in Jicheon-myeon, Chilgok-gun, and on November 25th, at the Gasan-myeon Community Sports Complex, carefully monitoring the eye health of local seniors.

Kim Dae-hyun, head of the Department of Optometry, stated, "It was a truly meaningful experience for the students as they were able to directly apply the knowledge they acquired through their specialized courses in the field and provide practical assistance to local residents. We will continue to expand our volunteer activities that foster mutual growth with the local community."
