【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경북도동물위생시험소는 지난 해 상반기 코로나19 1차 대유행했던 대구지역의 반려동물 109마리에 대한 코로나19 항체보유 여부를 경북대학교 산학협력단과 공동으로 조사한 결과 전 두수 음성으로 확인 됐다고 23일 밝혔다.

지난 해 상반기 대구‧경북에서 대규모 확진자가 발생함에 따라 반려동물의 감염여부에 대한 반려인들의 관심과 우려가 커지는 상황이었다.

이에 경북대학교 생명과학부 이창희교수와 공동으로 2020년 5월~ 12월 대구지역 동물병원 내원 동물과 유기동물보호센타에 보호 중인 반려견 59마리와 반려묘 50마리에 중화항체시험법으로 코로나19 항체보유현황에 대한 연구를 진행하여 전 두수 항체 음성으로 확인됐다.

해외 연구진에 의하면 확진자의 반려동물 혈액에서 살아있는 바이러스가 검출되지 않은 점을 고려하여 반려동물에서 사람에게로 전파 가능성은 거의 없음을 의미한다고 밝힌 바 있다. 반려동물은 확진자와의 긴밀한 접촉에 의해 감염되므로 확진자에 노출되어 감염증상을 보이는 반려동물(개, 고양이)은 코로나19 검사를 받아야 한다.

김영환 경상북도동물위생시험소장은 “경북도는 경북대학교 산학협력단 이창희교수 연구팀과 반려동물 COVID-19 항체 진단‧예방 기술개발연구를 지속적으로 협력하여 역인수공통감염병 전파에 대한 실태파악과 검사체계 구축하는 계기로 삼을 것”이라 강조하고 “소유자는 생활 속 예방수칙을 준수하고 감염에 대한 우려로 동물을 유기하거나 처분하는 일이 없기”를 당부했다.
