23일 오전 10시 40분 국회 소통관에서 대구경북신공항 이전을 위해 모인 권영진 대구시장과 이철우 경상북도지사, 곽상도‧이만희 국민의 힘 시도당 위원장은 성명서를 통해 대구경북신공항 특별법의 신속한 제정을 강력히 촉구했다.

이들은 성명서를 통해 “가덕도신공항 특별법 단독 처리와 대구경북신공항 특별법 보류 결정에 대해 깊은 유감과 분노를 표명한다”고 밝히며 “국토교통위원회의 결정은 이유도 근거도 없는 정치적 폭거”라고 강하게 비판했다.

그러면서 “국론을 분열시키고 영남권을 해묵은 갈등으로 재차 몰아넣는 몰염치한 행위임을 명심하라”고 강조했다. 

이어 “지난 10여년간 신공항을 둘러싼 긴 논란을 마무리 하고 영남권이 함께 이용할 공항을 짓기로 했음에도 부·울·경만을 위한 가덕도 공항을 세우려 한다면 대구경북이 이용할 수 있는, 제대로 된 민간공항을 약속하는 것이 당연한 순리이며 이치”라고 덧붙이며 “국가 차원의 적극적이고 종합적인 지원을 위한 대구경북 신공항 특별법 제정은 반드시 필요하다”고 재차 강조했다.

성명서 발표와 함께 곽상도 의원은 “가덕도 신공항 특별법이 아직까지 법사위와 본회에서 논의되고 통과되어야 하는 과정이 남아있어 주호영 국민의힘 원내대표께서 이 과정에 민주당과 더 협상력을 발휘해 대구⸱경북 통합신공항 건설특별법도 결실을 맺을 수 있도록 만들어달라”고 목소리를 보탰다.

이철우 도지사는 “대구경북신공항은 군공항과 민간공항이 함께 옮기는 최초 국책사업으로, 특별법에 따른 군 공항과 함께, 민간공항도 동시에 추진될 수 있도록 재정지원 등 근거 마련을 위한 별도의 특별법이 반드시 필요하다”면서 “이번 결과로 포기하는 것이 아니라, 지역에서 꾸준하게 요청해 반드시 법안이 통과되도록 노력하겠다” 말했다.

권영진 대구시장은 “지난 십 수년간 영남권 신공항 건설에 많은 지역 에너지를 쏟아 부은 결과를 정치권이 한순간에 물거품으로 만든 데 대해 실망을 금치 못한다”며, “대구경북 신공항 특별법 제정에 모든 역량을 결집해 통합신공항 건설의 차질 없는 추진과 영남권 상생발전을 도모해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.
