이날 성명서 발표에는 대구·경북 시도의회 의장과 대구시장, 경북도지사 뿐만 아니라 시도의회 공항특위 위원장(대구 안경은, 경북 홍정근)이 동참하였으며, 지역 국회의원으로는 이만희, 곽상도 의원이 참석해 대구경북신공항 특별법의 필요성을 강조했다.

이들은 성명서를 통해 “가덕도신공항 특별법 단독 처리와 대구경북신공항 특별법 보류 결정에 대해 깊은 유감과 분노를 표명한다”고 밝히며 “국토교통위원회의 결정은 이유도 근거도 없는 정치적 폭거”라며 강력히 비판했다.

이어 “국론을 분열시키고 영남권을 해묵은 갈등으로 재차 몰아넣는 몰염치한 행위임을 명심하라”고 강조하면서 “민주적 절차로 진행되어왔던 5개 시도간의 합의를 뒤엎는 정치적 폭거”라고 주장했다.

대구시의회 장상수 의장은 “그간의 노력에도 불구하고 통합신공항 특별법을 보류시킨 이번 결정을 지켜본 지역 주민들은 국가와 지역의 백년대계는 안중에도 없고 알량한 정치적 이익 밖에 생각하지 않는 정치권의 후안무치함에 허탈감을 넘어 분노를 느끼고 있다”라고 지역 민심을 전했다.

이어, “대구경북 통합신공항은 510만 대구경북 시도민의 간절한 염원의 결실이자 대구경북은 물론 대한민국의 미래를 밝혀줄 중요한 사업”이라며, “대구경북 통합신공항 사업이야말로 국토부와 국방부로 이원화된 사업추진의 난맥상을 정비하고, 국가재정 지원 근거 마련을 위한 특별법이 필요한 사업이라는 점을 고려하여 대구경북 통합신공항이 신속하고 흔들림 없이 추진될 수 있도록 정치권이 특별법 제정에 힘을 모아 주시기를 바란다”고 말했다.

경북도의회 고우현 의장은 “이철우 도지사와 권영진 대구시장이 국회 소통관에서 대구경북신공항의 성공적 추진의 발판을 마련하기 위한 특별법 제정을 촉구하는 성명서를 발표하는데 경북도의회가 힘을 보태고 한목소리를 내기 위해 성명서 발표에 참석하게 됐다“고 말했다. 

경북도의회 신공항이전지원특별위원회 홍정근 위원장(경산)은 “대구경북신공항은 오랜 산통 끝에 작년에 어렵사리 이전부지가 선정되어 도민의 염원을 담아 추진되고 있는 경북의 대역사인 만큼 일원화된 사업 추진을 위해 특별법 통과가 반드시 필요하기 때문에 앞으로도 특별법 제정을 위해 도의회 차원에서 할 수 있는 모든 노력을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
