대구시는 도심의 교통 혼잡을 개선하고 대구·경북 접근성을 높일 수 있는 4차순환선이 이달 말 완전 개통한다고 17일 밝혔다.

대구는 주변도시를 연결하는 8개의 방사형 도로가 도심을 통과해 주요 교차로에서 지·정체로 인한 물류수송 및 시민들의 교통불편이 가중돼왔다.

이를 해소하기 위해 대구시는 1987년 도로기본계획을 수립하고 국도와 고속도로를 연결하는 4차순환선 계획을 마련하여 사업을 추진해 왔다.

대구4차순환선의 전체 연장은 61.6km이며 절반가량인 29.1km(민자 17.7km, 일반 11.4km)를 대구시에서 건설하여 운영 중에 있다. 

공사구간인 4차순환선은 성서~읍내, 서변~안심 구간으로 총사업비 1조 5천억 원을 투입하여 총연장 32.5km, 나들목 8개소와 분기점 2개소가 설치되며 설계속도 80km인 4차로로 개통할 계획이다.

4차순환도로의 가장 큰 장점은 대구 도심의 교통량을 외곽으로 분산하여, 도심 내 8개 주요간선도로 혼잡구간의 교통량이 5~18% 감소되어 교통흐름이 크게 개선될 것으로 보인다.

또한, 대구 외곽 부도심(월배, 다사, 칠곡, 혁신도시, 지산․범물 등) 지역 간 교통 접근성도 크게 향상되며, 대구국가산단, 테크노폴리스, 성서산단 등 서남부권 지역의 대규모 산업단지와 인근 경북지역 공단 간을 연결해 지역경제 활성화*에도 큰 견인 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다.
