경북도에 따르면 청년마을 사업은 행정안전부가 지방 청년들의 유출 방지와 도시 청년들의 지역 정착을 지원해 인구감소 지역에 활력을 제고하기 위해 추진하는 것으로 개소 당 3년간 국비 6억원(매년 2억원)을 지원한다.

경북은 2020년 문경 달빛탐사대(문경읍)를 시작으로 2021년 상주 054마을(구.이인삼각, 서성동 등), 영덕 뚜벅이마을(영해읍)이 공모에 선정돼 국비사업을 마무리했다.

또 경북도 후속사업으로‘청년자립마을 활성화 지원 사업’을 통해 개소당 2년간 총 4억원을 지원해 청년유입 프로그램을 이어가고 있다.

올해 경주 가자미마을·의성 로컬러닝랩-나만의성·예천 생텀마을 3개소의 청년마을이 신규로 공모에 선정돼 전국 27개 청년마을 중 경북이 6개소의 가장 많은 청년마을이 조성돼 있다.

경북도는 그간 청년마을의 안정적 운영 및 자립을 위해 지자체 차원의 후속지원을 전국 최초로 추진했다.
