27일 영천시에 따르면 이번 사업은 대구도시철도 1호선을 하양역에서 영천시 금호읍까지 5.0㎞ 구간을 건설하는 사업으로 총사업비는 2,052억원이 투입될 계획이다.

지난 10월말 국토교통부 투자심사위원회 심의를 통과하고 국토교통부에서 기획재정부로 정식 제출된 지 2달 만에 정부의 예비타당성조사 대상사업으로 최종 선정됐다.

영천시는 이번 사업이 영천경마공원 개장, 금호·대창 하이패스IC, 영천하이테크파크지구, 금호일반산업단지 공영개발, 대창일반산업단지와 연계하여 시너지효과를 극대화할 것으로 기대하고 있으며, 특히 대구~경산~영천 지역 간 출·퇴근 교통 편의를 획기적으로 개선할 것으로 전망했다.

한편 예비타당성조사는 대형 신규 공공투자사업을 면밀하게 사전에 검토하는 제도로 내년 상반기 중 착수하여 통상 12개월간 이뤄지며 경제성 평가, 정책성 분석 및 지역균형발전 측면 등을 종합적으로 고려하는 종합평가(AHP)에서 0.5점 이상의 점수를 획득하면 사업 추진이 최종 확정된다.

최기문 영천시장은 “시정 핵심사업인 대구도시철도 1호선 하양~영천(금호) 연장 사업이 기획재정부 최종 종합평가(AHP)를 통과할 수 있도록 영천시의 모든 역량을 집중하여, 영천에 도시철도가 달리는 기적을 이루도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
