【브레이크뉴스 대구】박은정 기자=대구시는 운전면허를 반납하는 고령 운전자에게 올해부터는 대구행복페이로 지원한다고 1일 밝혔다.
그간 대구시는 고령 운전자 교통사고를 줄이고자 ‘대구광역시 교통안전 증진 조례’에 근거해 2019년부터 운전면허 자진 반납 어르신에게 대중교통 이용 시 사용할 수 있도록 교통카드를 지원하는 사업을 추진해 왔다.
그러나 올해부터 70세 이상 어르신 시내버스 무료화 시행(6월 예정)과 군위군의 대구광역시 편입(7월 예정)으로 사업 환경이 변화함에 따라 교통카드가 갖는 인센티브로의 유효성 감소가 예상돼, 현금처럼 사용할 수 있는 대구행복페이로 인센티브 지급 방식을 개선해 운전면허를 반납하는 어르신의 만족도를 높인다는 계획이다.
군위군은 6월까지는 현재와 같이 군위사랑상품권(10만 원)을 지급하고, 대구광역시로 편입되는 7월부터는 대구행복페이를 지원한다.
고령자가 운전면허를 반납하고 대구행복페이 카드를 받으려면 가까운 행정복지센터, 경찰서, 운전면허시험장을 방문해 면허증과 함께 운전면허 자진 반납 신청서를 작성하여 제출하면 된다.
대구시는 고령 운전자 면허 반납자가 늘어날 것으로 보고 관련 예산을 증액해 어르신 인센티브 지원 사업에 차질이 없도록 할 계획이다.
배춘식 대구시 교통국장은 “대구행복페이는 가맹점 어디서든 편리하게 사용할 수 있으므로 면허 반납 유인을 높여 반납자를 늘리는데 기여할 뿐만 아니라 지역 소비 활성화를 통해 지역경제 선순환에도 도움을 줄 것으로 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 실효성 있는 인센티브를 발굴해 고령운전자 교통사고 감소 및 교통안전 문화 정착에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
