【브레이크뉴스 상주】이성현 기자=환경부 산하 국립낙동강생물자원관(관장 용석원)은 6월 17일 경북 상주시 소재 본관에서 창립 10주년 기념식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

국립낙동강생물자원관은 담수생물의 조사·발굴을 통해 국가 생물주권을 확보하고, 생물자원의 지속가능한 이용을 실현하기 위해 2015년 6월 설립된 기타 공공기관이다.

지난 10년 동안 자원관은 하천과 습지 등에서 신종 및 미기록종 담수생물 2,995종을 새롭게 발굴했으며, 총 60만여 점에 달하는 1만 4,600여 종의 생물표본을 확보, 국내 담수생물종목록의 64%를 수집하는 성과를 이뤄냈다. 또한, 140건의 특허 출원과 41건의 기술이전을 통해 생물자원의 산업적 활용 기반 마련에도 기여했다.

이와 함께 생물다양성의 중요성을 알리기 위한 전시 및 교육 프로그램을 활발히 운영해 누적 170만 명이 전시관을 방문하며 국민과 소통하는 생물문화기관으로 자리매김했다. 이러한 성과들은 최근 발간된 『국립낙동강생물자원관 10년사』(2025.6.1.)에 상세히 담겼으며, 기관 누리집(nnibr.re.kr)에서도 확인할 수 있다.

‘담수생물과 함께한 10년, 지속가능한 미래로’를 주제로 열린 이번 기념식에서는 그간의 성과를 되짚고 앞으로의 발전 방향과 비전을 공유하는 자리가 마련됐다. 또 같은 날 개막된 특별전시 ‘담수생물, 10년의 기록’에서는 자원관이 이룩한 연구 성과와 교육·전시 활동을 다채로운 자료와 영상으로 선보이며, 오는 8월 31일까지 일반에 공개된다.

용석원 관장은 “창립 10주년은 그간의 성과를 되돌아보고, 앞으로 도약할 방향을 모색하는 뜻깊은 이정표”라며 “담수생물 분야의 전문성과 공공성을 더욱 강화해 지속가능한 미래를 선도하는 생물자원 전문기관으로 성장해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

The National Nakdong River Biological Resources Institute (Director Yong Seok-won) under the Ministry of Environment announced that it held a 10th anniversary ceremony at its main building in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do on June 17.

The National Nakdong River Biological Resources Institute is a public institution established in June 2015 to secure national biological sovereignty through the investigation and excavation of freshwater organisms and to realize sustainable use of biological resources.

Over the past 10 years, the institute has discovered 2,995 new and unrecorded freshwater organisms from rivers and wetlands, and secured a total of 14,600 biological specimens amounting to 600,000, collecting 64% of the domestic freshwater organism species list. In addition, it has contributed to establishing a foundation for industrial utilization of biological resources through 140 patent applications and 41 technology transfers.

In addition, it has actively operated exhibitions and education programs to inform the public of the importance of biodiversity, and has established itself as a biocultural institution that communicates with the public, with a cumulative 1.7 million visitors to the exhibition hall. Director Yong Seok-won said, “The 10th anniversary of our founding is a meaningful milestone in which we look back on our achievements to date and seek ways to advance in the future,” adding, “We will further strengthen our expertise and public nature in the field of freshwater organisms and grow into a specialized biological resource organization that leads a sustainable future.”
