【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=(재)경북테크노파크(원장 하인성) 경북국제개발협력센터는 지난 13일 과테말라시티 티칼 푸트라 호텔에서 ‘한국-과테말라 섬유산업 네트워킹 행사(Korea–Guatemala Networking Day: Textile & Apparel Sector)’를 성황리에 개최했다고 22일 밝혔다.

이번 행사에는 주과테말라 대한민국 대사관, KOTRA 과테말라 무역관, INTECAP, VESTEX 관계자와 한국 투자기업, ‘2025 Apparel Sourcing Show’ 참가 기업 등 50여 명이 참석해 양국 섬유산업의 협력 방안을 모색했다.

행사에서는 △과테말라 섬유TASK센터 조성지원사업 소개 △한국·현지 기업 간 교류 △INTECAP 및 VESTEX와의 협력 논의 △재직자 재교육 및 취업 연계 방안 등이 논의됐다. 이를 통해 양국은 기술교류와 상생발전을 위한 실질적 협력 기반을 강화했다.

특히 최근 미국의 새로운 관세정책으로 과테말라가 상대적으로 유리한 무역환경을 확보하면서, 한국 기업들의 투자 확대와 생산공장 이전 문의가 활발히 이어지고 있어 현지 섬유산업의 성장 가능성에 대한 기대감이 커지고 있다.

이번 행사는 산업통상자원부 주관, 한국산업기술진흥원(KIAT) 전담 산업통상협력개발지원사업(ODA)의 일환으로 추진되는 ‘과테말라 섬유TASK센터 조성지원사업’(2024~2027, 총 87억 원 규모)의 주요 프로그램 중 하나다. 사업에는 FITI시험연구원, 한국섬유소재연구원, 한국섬유기계융합연구원 등 국내 섬유 전문기관도 참여하고 있다.

과테말라 정부는 1,640㎡ 규모 건물을 제공해 봉제·디자인실, CAD실, 제직·염색가공실, 시험분석실 등 12개 교육장을 구축했으며, 200여 종의 장비가 설치돼 현지 섬유인력 양성과 한국 투자기업의 인력 수급 문제 해결에 기여할 예정이다.

김득환 주과테말라 대한민국 대사는 “이번 행사는 단순한 기술 교류를 넘어 양국 섬유산업이 함께 성장할 수 있는 출발점”이라며 “공동 프로젝트와 인력·기술 교류를 통해 세계 시장 경쟁력을 높일 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다.

하인성 경북테크노파크 원장도 “이번 네트워킹을 통해 기술·인력·산업 생태계 전반에서 새로운 협력 기반이 마련됐다”며, “국내 기업의 중남미 시장 진출과 현지 섬유산업 경쟁력 강화를 위해 지속적으로 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Gyeongbuk Technopark Successfully Concludes Textile Industry Networking Event in Guatemala

The Gyeongbuk International Development Cooperation Center of the Gyeongbuk Technopark Foundation (Director Ha In-seong) announced on the 22nd that it successfully held the "Korea-Guatemala Networking Day: Textile & Apparel Sector" at the Tikal Putra Hotel in Guatemala City on the 13th.

Approximately 50 participants, including officials from the Korean Embassy in Guatemala, the KOTRA Guatemala Trade Center, INTECAP, VESTEX, Korean investment companies, and companies participating in the "2025 Apparel Sourcing Show," explored cooperation opportunities between the two countries' textile industries.

The event included an introduction to the Guatemala Textile TASK Center Development Support Project, exchanges between Korean and local companies, discussions on cooperation with INTECAP and VESTEX, and discussions on retraining and job placement for current employees. Through this, the two countries strengthened the foundation for practical cooperation for technological exchange and mutually beneficial development.

In particular, with Guatemala recently securing a relatively favorable trade environment due to the new US tariff policy, Korean companies are actively inquiring about expanding investment and relocating production facilities, raising expectations for the growth potential of the local textile industry.

This event is one of the key programs of the "Guatemala Textile TASK Center Establishment Support Project" (2024-2027, total budget: KRW 8.7 billion), which is being implemented as part of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT)'s Official Development Assistance (ODA) program, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Korean textile specialists, including the FITI Testing & Research Institute, the Korea Textile Materials Research Institute, and the Korea Textile Machinery Convergence Institute, are also participating in the project.

The Guatemalan government provided a 1,640-square-meter building to establish 12 training facilities, including sewing and design laboratories, CAD laboratories, weaving and dyeing laboratories, and testing and analysis laboratories. Over 200 pieces of equipment will be installed, contributing to the development of local textile talent and addressing the labor supply and demand challenges faced by Korean investment companies.

Kim Deuk-hwan, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Guatemala, stated, "This event goes beyond simple technological exchange and serves as a starting point for the mutual growth of the textile industries of both countries. Through joint projects and the exchange of human resources and technology, we will be able to enhance our competitiveness in the global market."

Ha In-seong, President of Gyeongbuk Technopark, added, "This networking event has laid a new foundation for cooperation across technology, human resources, and the industrial ecosystem. We will continue to support Korean companies entering the Central and South American market and strengthen the competitiveness of the local textile industry."
