【브레이크뉴스 경주】이성현 기자=경상북도문화관광공사(사장 김남일)는 경주엑스포대공원이 단순히 ‘누구나 올 수 있는 공간’을 넘어, ‘누구나 즐길 수 있는 관광지’로 나아가기 위해 무장애(유니버설) 관광 실현에 박차를 가하고 있다고  밝혔다.

이번에 제작된 수어홍보영상과 점자·큰글씨 안내책자는 시청각장애인을 위한 맞춤형 안내 서비스다. 특히 수어홍보영상은 단순한 해설이 아닌 수어 통역사와 농인 배우가 함께 여행을 체험하는 대화 형식으로 구성돼 눈높이에 맞춘 콘텐츠로 주목받고 있다. 영상은 경주엑스포대공원 공식 유튜브에서 확인할 수 있으며, 안내책자는 종합안내센터에서 대여 가능하다.

공사는  10일 서울관광플라자에서 열린 협약식을 통해 서울관광재단을 비롯한 7개 지방관광공사 및 문화관광재단과 함께 ‘유니버설 관광 거버넌스’를 공식 출범했다. 앞으로 각 기관은 공동 협력사업 발굴, 지역 관광자원 연계 콘텐츠 개발 등을 통해 모두가 편안하게 여행할 수 있는 기반을 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

경주엑스포대공원은 그동안 ▲장애인 휠체어 이동 동선 개선 ▲가족 단위 휴게시설 확충 ▲체험형 콘텐츠 확대 등 관광의 장벽을 낮추기 위한 노력을 이어왔다. 2022년 12월에는 보건복지부·국토교통부로부터 배리어프리(Barrier Free) 인증을 획득했으며, 무장애 나눔길 조성, 유아차·휠체어 대여, 전동휠체어 충전 시설 설치 등 물리적 장벽 최소화에도 힘써왔다.

이와 함께 저출생 문제 극복에도 동참해,  9월과 11월에는 경주솔거미술관에서 ‘아트&아사나(Art&Asana)’ 태교 요가 프로그램을 운영할 예정이다.

김남일 사장은 “관광은 선택이 아닌 권리”라며 “이번 사업과 거버넌스 출범은 단순한 접근성 개선을 넘어, 여행의 가치를 ‘볼거리 중심’에서 ‘모두가 즐기는 경험 중심’으로 전환하는 출발점”이라 강조했다. 이어 “수어홍보영상의 타이틀처럼 모두의 자유가 피어나는 경주엑스포대공원을 만들어 가겠다”고 말했다.

Gyeongju Expo Park Fully Promotes "Universal Tourism" to Realize Barrier-Free Tourism

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization (CEO Kim Nam-il) announced that Gyeongju Expo Park is accelerating its efforts to realize barrier-free (universal) tourism, moving beyond simply being a "space accessible to everyone" to becoming a "tourist destination everyone can enjoy."

The newly produced sign language promotional video and Braille and large-print guidebooks provide customized guidance services for people with hearing and visual impairments. The sign language promotional video, in particular, is garnering attention for its engaging content, featuring a dialogue between a sign language interpreter and a deaf actor, rather than a simple commentary. The video is available on the Gyeongju Expo Park official YouTube channel, and the guidebooks are available for rental at the Information Center.

On the 10th, the organization officially launched "Universal Tourism Governance" with the Seoul Tourism Foundation, seven regional tourism organizations, and cultural tourism foundations at a signing ceremony held at the Seoul Tourism Plaza. Going forward, each organization plans to expand the foundation for comfortable travel for all by exploring joint projects and developing content linked to local tourism resources.

Gyeongju Expo Grand Park has been working to lower barriers to tourism by improving wheelchair accessibility for people with disabilities, expanding family-friendly rest areas, and expanding experiential content. In December 2022, it received Barrier Free certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Furthermore, the park has been working to minimize physical barriers by creating barrier-free shared paths, renting strollers and wheelchairs, and installing electric wheelchair charging facilities.

Furthermore, the park is committed to addressing the low birth rate, with plans to host the "Art & Asana" prenatal yoga program at the Gyeongju Solgeo Art Museum in September and November.

CEO Kim Nam-il emphasized, "Tourism is not a choice, but a right. This project and the launch of governance go beyond simply improving accessibility; it marks the starting point for shifting the value of travel from 'attraction-centered' to 'experience-centered for all to enjoy.'" He continued, “As the title of the sign language promotional video suggests, we will create a Gyeongju Expo Park where everyone’s freedom blossoms.”
