한국수력원자력(사장 정재훈, 이하 한수원)이 한국경영인증원이 주관하고 산업부, 중기부가 후원하는 2021글로벌스탠다드 경영대상의 탄소중립경영 부문에서 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

한수원은 체계적인 에너지 관리를 통해 온실가스 배출을 줄이고, 친환경 기술개발 및 외부 온실가스 감축을 통한 탄소중립 성과 등을 인정받아 최고상인 대상의 영광을 안았다.

특히, 저탄소발전의 안정적 운영과 신재생에너지 확대, 신규 양수 건설, 혁신형 소형모듈원전(SMR) 및 수소전주기 기술개발 등을 포함한 탄소중립 경영전략이 높은 평가를 받았다. 이밖에도 지구환경 보전과 국민 삶의 질 향상, 국가경제발전에 기여한 성과 등에서 인정을 받은 것으로 알려졌다.

한수원에 따르면 현재 2028년 인허가 취득을 목표로 국회 및 산·학·연·관 협력을 통해 혁신형 SMR 개발을 추진하고 있는 것으로 알려지고 있다. 혁신형 SMR는 분산형 전력공급 및 수소·담수·공정열 생산 등 다목적 활용이 가능하면서도 안전성을 대폭 높인 것이 특징으로, 5천800억원 규모의 혁신형 SMR 개발사업은 지난 10월 예비타당성조사 대상사업으로 선정된 바 있다.

또한, 한수원은 신재생에너지 설비 확보에도 속도를 내는 모양새다.  현재 약 1GW 규모인 신재생에너지 설비를 2034년까지 신규 설비 11GW를 추가해 총 12GW의 설비를 갖출 계획이다. 아울러 원자력과 신재생 공존을 위한 수소 전주기 기술개발 로드맵을 수립하고 그린수소 실증 연구센터를 구축하는 등 수소산업 생태계 조성에도 앞장서고 있다.
