【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=해양수산부(장관 조승환)는 포항시 구룡포항 내 준설토 투기장을 재개발해 숙박시설, 친수시설 등을 갖춘 관광복합단지로 조성하는 ‘구룡포항 항만재개발사업’의 사업계획 공모에 나선다고 3일 밝혔다.

최근 구룡포항은 드라마 촬영, 지역 축제, 과메기·대게·오징어 등 다양한 먹거리로 관광객들이 꾸준히 증가하고 있는 추세이나, 관광객들을 위한 숙박시설과 공원, 산책로 등 친수시설이 부족하다는 문제가 대두돼 왔다.

이에 해양수산부는 2006년 준설토 투기가 마무리된 구룡포항 준설토 투기장을 재개발해 관광복합단지로 조성하는 ‘포항 구룡포항 항만재개발사업’을 ‘제3차 항만재개발계획’에 포함시켜 사업계획 공모를 실시하는 등 포항시와 수차례 협업을 거쳐 사업을 본격적으로 추진하고 있다.

사업대상지는 구룡포읍 병포리 구룡포항 준설토 투기장 일원 총 3만9,216㎡ 부지이며, 사업에 참여하고자 하는 기업은 200실 이상의 숙박시설(3성급 이상 관광호텔)이 포함된 사업계획서를 작성해 오는 12월 28일까지 해양수산부에 방문 제출하면 된다.

특히, 민간의 창의적인 아이디어를 사업에 반영시키기 위해 숙박시설을 제외한 나머지 시설들은 포항시에서 수립한 도시관리계획 등 관련 규정을 준수하는 범위 내에서 사업계획 제안자가 자유롭게 제시할 수 있게 했다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “최근 SNS시대에 접어들면서 구룡포는 ‘동백꽃 필 무렵’ 드라마 촬영지를 비롯한 우수한 해안 절경으로 큰 인기를 끌고 있고 해양 경관뿐 아니라 풍부한 자원도 보유하고 있어, 체류형 관광복합단지가 건립된다면 일차원적인 관광지 조성이 아닌 복합문화 관광 거점으로 거듭날 것으로 기대된다”며, “앞으로도 호텔, 리조트 등 가족단위 체류형 숙박시설과 편의시설 제공을 통해 관광 인프라를 확충하고 관광인프라를 개발·연계해, 지역경제 활성화와 지속가능한 희망특별시 포항 완성을 이뤄내겠다”라고 말했다.
