엄진엽 청장은 1966년생 경북 군위 출신으로 대구 영진고, 경북대 지리학과를 졸업하고 1993년 중소벤처기업부의 전신인 공업진흥청에서 공직을 시작했다.

그동안 중소기업청장 비서실장, 경남지방중소기업청장, 중소기업청 기업혁신지원과장, 중소벤처기업부 지역기업육성과장, 지역혁신정책과장, 운영지원과장, 옴부즈만지원단장 등을 역임했다.

특히 중소벤처기업부 출범 후 최초의 비고시(7급 공채) 출신 국장으로 4년 연속 함께 일하고 싶은 간부에 선정되는 등 능력과 리더십을 인정받고 있다.

엄진엽 청장은 “지역 소상공인 및 중소·벤처기업의 어려움은 어떤 것들이 있는지 잘 파악한 다음 본부에 건의하고, 개선하여 기업하기 좋은 환경을 조성할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
