대구시는 미세먼지 발생원 주변과 생활권 내 주요 도로, 철로변 녹지나 유휴지를 활용한 도심 내 숲 조성으로 쾌적한 숲속의 도시 대구를 만들기 위한 ‘기후대응 도시숲’ 조성을 추진한다.
도시숲은 미세먼지 저감뿐만 아니라 한여름 열대야를 줄이고 소음을 감소시키며, 휴식과 심리적인 안정을 함께 제공하고 도시 내 서식 동물이 살아가는 생태적 복합공간이다.
대구시는 지난 2019년부터 2022년까지 서대구산업단지, 국가산업단지 완충녹지 등 20개소에 154억 원을 들여 44ha 규모의 미세먼지 차단 숲을 조성한 데 이어 올해는 연경지구, 동화천 주변, 칠곡1택지 완충녹지, 성서3차 지방산업단지, 달성1차 일반산업단지, 테크노폴리스 시설녹지 등 6개소에 44억 원을 투자해 4.4ha의 기후대응 도시숲을 조성한다.
최병원 대구시 산림녹지과장은 “기후완화, 소음감소, 대기정화 및 휴식·정서 함양의 효과가 있는 도심 속 허파, 도시숲 조성을 통한 시민의 삶의 질 개선에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
